Got a Dell Wistron board with a charging problem. The board starts fine with adapter only. If the battery is connected by itself-no start. It also wouldn't start with the battery and adapter together, so I tried to short the power button and it blew PU4004 and 4006 (p.40). Have replaced the charging chip and PU4004 and 4006 but now every time I simply plug the adapter in the board is instantly shorted and it's always 4004 and 4006. I'm suppose to have 1.4-3.6v from PL4001 but it's way high because the voltage coming from pin 19 of PU4005 is about 15v, it's suppose to be a lot lower. I'm guessing that high voltage is what's killing 4004 and 4006. I bought 2 new charging chips and the output of pin 19 is the same on both of them. what to do?

Re: Charging circuit hell
Charging chip is not blowing 4004 and 4006, removed 4005, installed new 4004 and 6, plugged in board and they still crapped outComment

Re: Charging circuit hell
I'm having a little trouble understanding you. Remove 4004, 4006, pl4001 and then measure pin 19 from 4005?Comment

by flat-eartherThe charging indicator light on my ASUS X54H laptop is always on even when the charger is disconnected.
Windows also shows ''Plugged in'' when charger is not connected.
This problem started year ago gradually, when unplugging the charger the charging light took several seconds to disappear, then minutes, and now almost always on even when unplugged for an entire day.
Strangely, before sometimes immediately when plugging in the charger the charging light went away, and later came back with it connected.

by repair-itThis board attaches to 2 12v batteries in tandum (Black/Red squares). There is a 24v power supply that attaches at the 2 pin molex connector (circled in red). I need help to determine which components run the charging circuit in an effort to determine a point of failure. There are multiple via's, making it difficult to trace the circuit. Nothing appears to be shorted but I wasn't able to fully test as I do not have 2 12v batteries available. My assumption is that the micro controller (red question mark) determines when to turn the charging circuit on & off. I'm pretty sure a regulator and...1 Photo

Small technical problem on a Nintendo Switch lite
Here's what I noticed: the USB port has been damaged internally, with a short circuit on the power supply line to the small fuse.
After replacing the USB connector, the short circuit went away and I can't see any other short circuit in the whole motherboard.
When I charge the console, it seems to be charging: I get 15 volts and an amperage of 0.450 A.
Then, after a while, the amperage increases to 1.1 A and the BQ24193 charging chip starts to heat up, as evidenced... -

1.1. Introduction
Almost every laptop has a charging circuit of some sort, that does a few things:- Manages switching between AC adapter and battery power
- Manages battery charging and generates power rail to charge battery
There are 2 different designs to handle switching between AC adapter and battery power and feeding the system:- Hybrid power boost (HPB) and traditional circuits without power boost (see Warning in HPB section)
- Narrow VDC (NVDC)
Texas instrument has a nice overview of these technologies with some more details at https:... - Loading...
