Clevo MB powers up but no Image with new BGA

Hello guys!


Got a Clevo Mobo (ref 6-71-M74S0-D05A-GP) with GPU problems.
Everytime the GPU drivers were installed, BSOD related with Nvidia.
Started by reflowing the GPU, installed fresh OS, and when installing VGA drivers, BSOD again.
Gave a new reflow and never got image again. Bought a new BGA and installed it.
New BGA seems ok, but I never got image again.

The tests I made :

- 5V and 3V present @ JP11 and JP8
- No coils where shorted

After pressing Power Button :

- Signal KBC_RSMRST# @pin35 of KBC - 3.3V (OK) So I suppose KBC and BIOS are OK.(see page 73 of manual)

Mesured all the PJx points:
-PJ1 (1.1V) - 1.17V
-PJ2 ( ) - 1.47V
-PJ3 (1.05V)- 1.06V
-PJ? (1.2V ) - 1.27V
-PJ6 (1.8V) - 1.85V

Even not getting image on the external screen, I noticed that 1 min +- after I turned on the pc, the fan started spinning as the IC's heated up.
Seemed ok also.

Dont know hot to check S4 and S5 commands, and I do not have an oscilloscope to mesure frequency of the crystal.

Could some one give me a few ideas to take the troubleshoot further?

No imagem on external nor internar.
Still, I have the mobo without LCD, and so I only test it connected to external.

Is it worth a try flashing Bios chip?

bought a programmer for this, should this be the right moment to try it out ?

well for my experience , here in portugal ,. CLEVO board are used in INSYS computers ( discusting sh$%) ,. and usually is image problems , are related to SIS northbridge , or GPU(very rare) or Bios ., try give a reflow first on the SIS big chipset . then let us know.

You're right, it's from an Insys . Really sh%&$ laptops.

Gonna try to give a reflow on the SIS chipset. It was that, or the Bios my next move.

For what I saw yesterday, the cpu heats up, GPU heats up and that SIS chipset is just sofly warm.
For my experience, they should be a little hotter when in operation.

Hello!

Reflowed the SIS chipset, and still no image.

Cpu, Gpu and both SIS chipsets get warm, fan starts spinning some time after I turn it on but ... no image.

Flash the bios?
Any sugestion?

which machine are you using to flow the chip to the board

the worst thing you can do is start flowing random chips on the board, basically playing a guessing game

if the original issue is with the gpu, we need to focus on that before moving anywhere

Ram is good, tested with 2 good ones.
Cpu is good also.

Hello!

The issue was related to GPU.
Now that no image presents, I'm trying to find the problem.

What can I check more on the GPU side?
It has a new BGA on it.

like i mentioned and since you're frmo portugal , does insys , as you know , present random shit problem , IF GPU is NEW and well SOLDERED. if you have a spare insys , just replace bios if you dont have a bios flasher .
IF after that problem persist .. i still bet on the bloody SIS chipset (since 85% of the problems of does machines are related to this chipset , and somethimes only afyer changing it it work !!!! that why i stoped working on does machines , if they came on store , i warn client about the crap is it and they option to repair at they own risk. more honest that this impossible .

Well gonna loose some time more with this one, if I see it's useless I will do like you and stop accepting Insys Sh%&

Gonna try Bios option and see from there.
