    ASUS GL553VD power loop problem

I have the above here (i5, gtx1050) that had liquid damage, replaced 3 mosfets, cleared all shorts now tries to power up and power, caps lock and charging lights flash for half a second then hdd light just blips every half second forever.

BQ IC looks fine and definitely no more shorts, power rails are pulsing along with reset, can’t work out what the issue is, does anyone have experience with a similar fault?

someone else posted they had this issue and tried reflashing bios but didn’t solve it.

Here’s what it’s doing. Keyboard LEDs flash too. Would an EC or BIOS reflash help?

also suspect keyboard is shorted since when connected the laptop does nothing at all and the 3.3v on the power button jumper drops to 1.2v

Further to this, because it keeps resetting I can’t reliably see with my DMM if +5VS is being correctly generated. That said, isn’t +5VS a standby voltage? So should be present at all times? Would this indicate the voltage isn’t being generated correctly? It’s not short

Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode. Measure the resistance to ground of each inductor. Hunting for a lower than normal resistance on each power rail.

Test the resistance on the 5v vbus line which are linked to the USB ports. The USB load switch is a common point of failure.

Great I will do, thank you

            most read megs

The EC and BIOS would be useful:

            Asus ZX553V
            GL553VD Rev 2.0
            SN H6N0CV01P629223

I guess 4-8 ohm on CPU rail would be normal on inductors

              Bios requests go here
              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...53vd#post70226

Post there the required info (S/N, board model, laptop model) along with a backup of your existing BIOS, someone there will supply a working BIOS for you to try
Read the BIOS chip 2-3 times, confirm you got a good dump by comparing the 3 files with hex editor, and check that it's not empty (FF FF FF FF ...) before trying another BIOS

Thank you really appreciate that. Been going through everything and still not finding any shorts or low resistances except cpu and gpu (2-8 ohm). Think bios is next.

Cpu and gpu are low voltage rails so will be low resistance by design. To me, they look ok.

You need a SPI flash programmer, the cheapest is the CH341A, also get a SOP8 200mil adapter, that requires desoldering the BIOS chip from the board, there's also a SOP8 clip but it will take some tries to get it to properly make a connection

Check here for more info https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...21#post1622421

As I said before, it's best to make a backup of the existing contents on the BIOS chip before flashing another BIOS, the original BIOS also contains the serial number and Windows key, that has to be transfered to the "new" BIOS with a hex editor

Replaced a mosfet and accidently bridged 19v and gnd. Nice hole in the board and perminant short so that's that. Damn, this would have been perfect for me. Back to my 2013 Celeron machine I guess.

                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                            Assuming...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
                            by PantherDave
                            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

Hello, I have an issue with the motherboard. Specifically, it doesn't power on, more precisely, the POST initialization doesn't occur.

Let me start from the beginning, the motherboard suddenly stopped working one day. There are no beep signals from the speaker, and the debug LEDs are not lighting up. After inspecting it under a microscope and using thermal imaging, I didn't find anything that could be damaged.

After that, I began voltage measurements, in which I noticed the absence of VDDQ, VDDP, VTT, and VPP lines. Later, I checked if there is an EN state on these lines,...

Hello, I have an asus Z97-A motherboard and it doesn't start which was working properly before, the problem isn't related by ram, ram slots or psu (I changed all and nothing work), the exact problem is when you switch it on , it starts and after 1 seconds (no boot or display picture) it's off and then on cycle continuously until you power it off from psu also it's responding to the power switch for turning it off if you keep pressing it 3 or 4 seconds (power button pin has 3.3v) , also when you start it with eatx 12v socket connected this is happening (power cycle also all voltages are resetting...
