Hey guys, I need a little help here. I have a MacBook Pro A1708 820-00840 stuck @ 5V. Started off affecting just one port but now it's affecting both. Both CD3215 ics were replaced but the issue remains. One port does a loop and the other stays at a constant 5V. Both CD3215 have 3V incoming. I checked for PP3V3_G3H @ R3000, C3100 and C3108, R3001, C3200 and C3208. The weird thing is though that the ammeter shows the current draw (5V @ 0.5A) coming out from the port as opposed to it going in. Any ideas on helping me fix this?

Meter in DIODE mode. No power to the board.
Confirm that the dual diode @ D6905 is ok. Red meter probe on pin # 1; black meter probe on pin #3. Meter should conduct.
Reverse the meter leads and the meter should block.
Repeat to test pins #2 and pin #3 in the same way. We want to check that D6905 is leaking and allowing for a reverse voltage to travel through the part.
Also, what is the voltage to ground of PPDCIN_G3H? Is it stable?

To me, there is a shorted part onboard in this region since the VBUS is not the text book 5v for each and every permutation of the USB-C port.
Revising...I am going cross-eyed and referenced the wrong schematic. Will review this later and update with suggestion by tomorrow. Late at the office now.
Suggest to investigate the VBUS of each of these USB-C ports. Check their resistance to ground. One of these is with a shorted part onboard since the 5v from PD adapter is sinking to 4v5 which is too low.Last edited by mon2; 04-11-2025, 04:56 PM.Comment

by BmetHi,
I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch A2238 M2 and it was stuck 5V with 0 amps. I measured some important lines and I found a short on PP3V8_AON_MPMU_ISNS_VIN, I tried injecting 1v and I saw heat coming from the mPMU so I removed the pmu thinking that was the problem. I don't know why I didn't check the other side of the border but there it was, a shorted cap. I replaced the cap and the short was gone, so I reballed the PMU and put it on again but voltage was still stuck at 5V and the current was fluctuating between 0 and 0.45 amps. I checked under the thermal camera and I saw the mPM...04-02-2025, 05:02 PM -
by DATATECH85Hello,
I am currently working on a Macbook Pro A1990 (motherboard 820-01041) which is not charging.
The Macbook consumes 5V and 0.019A at USB-C. There seems to be a partial short-circuit on the PPBUS_G3H rail as I have 0V on this rail.
I've physically separated (by removing F7000 and F7001) PPBUS_G3H and the ISL9240 charging chip to see which side the short is coming from. Removing these fuses gives me 12.6V at the output of the ISL chip (PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_REG).
However, I can't work out exactly why I don't have the PPBUS_G3H rail.
Here are the values... -
by martyjelenHello, I have this Macbook A2141. It stuck at 5V / 0,075A. I measured all 4 ports, all the same. PPBUS_G3H is present but only 12,3V. Should be 12,6V ? according to this article : https://repair.wiki/w/MacBook_Pro_A2...w_at_5V_repair
PP3v3_G3H_RTC_X is present - 3,3V
PP3v3_G3H_SOCPMU is present - 3,3V
What else should I check?
Thank you for your help. -
by duwaneHi All.
I have an 820-02016 board (A2337 M1) that has come in for data recovery. Reported as liquid damage, but no visible evidence of any liquid damage.
Board was initially stuck at 5v, and current only spiking occasionally to around 400mA and cycling.
After initial troubleshooting, found that C7800 (which feeds the power rail PP5V_BSTLQ_VOUT_SPMU) was dead short to ground.
Replaced C7800 and short gone. Board still stuck at 5v. Current draw behaviour changed. It now spikes up for a second to around 100mA to 130mA, then drops down to... -
