    ASUS G731G power on loop after repair attempt

    Hello everybody, I replaced the power plug of my Asus G731GW-EV123T (i7 9750h - 16gb - RTX2070) because the plug would overheat if not kept pressed in with a finger.

    After soldering the new connector and checking for shorts on the soldered feet the pc has a new problem.

    The pc starts up as soon as i plug the power, even if I disconnect the power button, but i get no video signal and after a while it turns off.

    Where can I start troubleshooting?

      Hello, here's more details on the board:

      G531GW REV 1.5

      I started checking the board and found that with power plugged in the main coils (8v, 5v and 3,3v) seems to carry the correct voltage, same goes for the CPU coils.

      GPU side things do not look good. I get 0ohm on all the inductors, what can I check next?

      on a side note I noticed that the first mosfet after the power plug has a deep scratch on the top surface (see pic), I must have damaged it while removing the old power plug, checking source and drain in diode mode gives the same value of the neighboring one, should I consider replacing it

          Hello,

          I think your mofset is fine.
          If you take out the battery and maybe cmos battery, that's normal laptop start automaticly.

          Gpu Line have a very low résistance near 0ohm.


          check ram, edp câble, are well plugged. (Test With one stick Of ram / one slot after another…
          be patient, post can be very long after removing battery
          You can try With hdmi without edp câble (don't Forget to plug out battery before touching edp câble)

          send more photos of D.C. jack area to see if everything is in the right place

              Thanks for the reply and the information on the gpu resistance.

              I'll try what you mentioned in the next days and I'll update, I really hope I have not broken the edp cable, or worse connector, I've been very careful with it.

              Here's a picture of the soldering made on the power connector, it is a bit rough since is my second dime soldering on a board, the small pin in the center looks shorted to positive but is not

                  I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

                  I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                  When I reflash again the bios of hoaca388 the unit powers on and the unit lives!!! Hooray!! All voltage in the coil 3.3v, 5v and 6.7v indicate charging are all present. including the cpu voltage , EEPROM and GPU voltage the unit is now alive, normal screen booting to windows and log in screen until I power it off. Then the unit never goes on even when pressing the power button in the keyboard.. Voltage reading 19v main , 3.3v VCC in IT8225E-128 and EEPROM VCC 0 volt and the charging voltage 0 volt.

                  Try to trace the power switch button goin to the power switch IC PU8803 (APL3533AQBI-TRG)...

                  Hello everyone, I have an ASUS FX506LI laptop that does not turn on, and I need help diagnosing the issue. Here is what I have checked so far:
                  Initial Symptoms:
                  • The laptop has no power at all (no LEDs, no fan spin).
                  • No 3.3V or 5V present on the board.
                  • The power button (NBSWON#) reacts but only changes from 0V to 0.5-0.11V.
                  Power Rail Checks:
                  1. Charger input (FETs PKCH2BB)
                    • Drain: 20V, Source: 0V, Gate: 0V (FETs not switching).

                    • VCC and ACDET are present.
