    MacBook Pro 13" M2 question

    Will any ISL9240HI chip work on this particular model, it uses an ISL9240HI but I am not having luck with it turning the board on even though this is the reasoning why it's not working. One of the ISL9240HI chips failed and there was liquid damage there, I replaced two resistors in question that were bad and solved that one issue, however I am still stuck at 5V 0.08 amps. Also the keyboard does not work yet and I need to get the board to turn on at least temporarily to get the customers DATA. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also I am only getting 1VOLT on PPBUS_AON. I am dumbfounded since I have replaced this chip three times and no luck. I know it is this area, but I cannot seem to understand what's going on at this time...

    Hey mon2 do you have any idea what could be causing this? I looked this up and that it states it may be in DFU, however we cannot get it to go into DFU due to the fact the keyboard doesn't work on the board since it needs to be diagnosed, and since we don't have power I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. It was working earlier and then it decided to just stop working.

    Also all the important resistors have 1 OHMS on each resistor that would trigger something. I just got a new batch of ISL9240 chips in today and replaced it with a BRAND NEW chip one more time and nope still nothing. This customer is in desperate need of their DATA and I know I can get it just need to solve this issue.

      I noticed our ISL9240HI does not have a B3 on the end and the one that is on has B3. I would assume this would be the reasoning they won't turn on. Going to order some without B3.

        What are the exact markings of the original ISL9240? Are you sure the step # is not on the 2nd line? (B0, B3, etc.)

        Have you checked the resistance to ground of each inductor on the board? This will rule out a shorted part on the local power supply rails.

        What is the exact resistance to ground of PPBUS_AON?

        Which 820-**** board are you working on?

        If the original ISL9240 was with a 'B3' suffix then suggest to using exactly the same for the replacement. Perhaps their firmware is pinging the ID of the controller and blocking you if there is a mismatch.

        On this note, what is the voltage to ground of the SMBUS lines at the battery? These end up eventually to the ISL9240 and may be a factor.

          We ordered chips from Mobile sentry and they sent us ISL9240HIB3 which is weird

            Only the factory will know the true differences in the step versions of this device. We attempted to extract out some details from Intersil but got shut down. We also invested a few thousand $$ on a pet project to breakout the ISL9239 and ISL9240 to reverse engineer the operation and somewhere we have the finished FPC boards. Check Aliexpress, they appear to offer all the variations or consider a donor board.

            Did you check the other suggestions? Issue can also be in the mosfets linked to the ISL9240. Checked the SMBUS lines?

              We are closing up early, but I will let you know when we get back. Thanks for checking in on this. I found a donor M2 board that turns on so I transferred that chip over and it still didn't turn on, I am starting to think the ISL9240 chip is not the culprit anymore. I will update you with my readings and findings. Even after this I have to diagnose the Keyboard not typing issue. Stupid board decided to turn itself off before I could fix it.

                I found the issue on this board, found a shorted diode at Q5240. Replaced turned back on, now trying to solve why this keyboard is not working.
