    Lenovo E15 Gen 2 Keeps Beeping Loud Noise

    Hello Badcaps Members,

    I'm experiencing an issue with my Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 2, and I'm hoping someone here might have some insight. The laptop charges to full capacity, but as soon as I power it up, I get a loud sound, and there's no POST.

    I disconnected the battery and connected a USB meter, which shows 20V 0.23A when the sound occurs. I've already tried changing the screen, but it didn't resolve the issue.

    When I use Lenovo PC Diagnostics App I get results as 01000

    Here are the details:
    • Model: Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 2
    • Board Number: GE4B0/GE5B0 (NM-D011)
    • CPU: Intel Core i5 11th Gen

    Attached is a video link showing the issue. Any ideas or suggestions on what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated!

    I guess this issue runs in Thinkpad E15 Gen 2
    Had exactly same thing with few of them and have not figured out how to fix them. Also had units playing random and kind of interrupted / corrupted sounded beep codes with no post or display..
    I tried reflashing BIOS and EC but it did not help.
    With or without memory module it makes same thing
    Worth to discuss possible solutions here

      Consumption of 0.23A is perhaps indicating presence of 3.3V/5V/1.8V /1.2V rails unless there is some short.
      VCCSA present.(The name may be different in schematic)?

        Lol, You are the genius man (The System Agent Voltage (Vccsa) of (0.9​ - 0.8)V was not present I've removed the heatsink, and BOOM 0.9V present, the laptop is ON.

        Somehow the heatsink is creating a short.

          Use kapton tape to insulate the heatsink touching the VCCSA regulator area.

              I can confirm I have come across several of these with exactly the same issue: a loud obnoxious unrelenting tone. The tone would go away temporarily if pressed on the motherboard around the heatsink area sometimes. When removing the heatsink, the tone would go away. Solution by mcplslg123 is what fixes the issue.

                  keep in mind that this can indicate cold solder joints under the cpu/pch as well. this happens very often on "modern" lenovo machines due to the bad solder quality.

                    Earlier today I had encounter with another motherboard with identical issue, same music pattern. Previous suggestion by mcplslg123 that worked for me before didn't work this time. Indeed, when pressed in certain areas with a finger, the sound goes away and the motherboard boots just fine. In this case, I used a heat gun @ 480c for about 2 minutes working on and around the cpu/pch chip area, occasionally pressing on the top and bottom left corners of the chip. After the motherboard cooled off, I had the notebook fired up and so far it ran all day without making that sound. I did try to flex the computer to see if the problem rears its ugly head and so far no problems. Just keep in mind, the musical tone occurs only at motherboard startup. Once the computer boots, you can't reproduce the issue.

                    So, I think you are right it's cold solder joints under the cpi/pch and they are only responsible for getting the cpu to start. Once the cpu kicks in, those colder joints do not affect cpu performance.

                      It worked for me too. In this case I used a slightly different method, preheated the card to 100 degrees to avoid stressing the integrated circuits and with hot air at 370 degrees wind 60% for a minute I acted in rotation at about 5 centimeters away from the CPU and for another minute I lowered the torch to 2 centimeters always maintaining a slow rotary movement. thanks bro

                        Only way to fix this is to reballing CPU
                        Done many since my last post, none of them returned so far
