    Macbook Air A2337, 820-02016-A stuck at 5V

    Hello everybody,

    I have seen a lot of posts about the A2237/A2338 about the 5V not boosting up to 20V issue, but none of them seem to have the exact problem as my board does.

    My PPBUS_AON was measuring ~9.32V and the board kept power cycling, so I removed the fuse F5200 to measure PPVBAT_AON_CHGR_REG and indeed it was still 9.32V, but the board stopped power cycling. Then I measured U5200 values and got this:

    U5200:
    PPDCIN_AON_CHGR_R = 5.144V
    AUX_DET = 1.287V
    VDD = 2.767V
    VDDP = 2.767V
    AUX_OK = 0.848V
    AMON = 0V
    BMON = 0V

    I think what stands out the most are the low VDD/VDDP values, which I know should be around 5V.
    Is the next step to remove U5200? I would like to be absolutely certain there are no more possible culprits before attempting to remove it, as I am not that experienced yet with BGA repairs.

    Thank you all for your time.

      Hello,

      Thank you very much for your answer. I thought I had seen that post already, but to make sure I went ahead and measured and wrote down my findings:
      1. L8100 / L8101 / L8102 (PPVDD_PCPU_AWAKE) (Figure 1) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~0.033 / ~31.3Ω (Resistance)
      2. L82B0 / L82B1 (PPVDD_ECPU_AWAKE) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~0.120 / 119.1Ω (Resistance)
      3. L8270 / L8271(PPVDD_CPU_SRAM_AWAKE) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~ 0.241 / 240.6Ω (Resistance)
      4. L8120 (PPVDD_SOC_S1) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~ 0.04 / 39.5Ω (Resistance)
      5. L8110 / L8111 / L8112 (PPVDD_GPU_AWAKE) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~ 0.044 / 43.5Ω (Resistance)
      6. L8280 / L8281 (PPVDD_DISP_S1) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~ 0.208/ 207Ω (Resistance)
      7. L8290 (PPVDD_DCS_S1) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~ 0.277 / 276.5Ω (Resistance)
      8. L84E0 - (PP1v4_LDO_PREREG) - Normal diode mode to ground reading ~ 0.301 / >170kΩ and climbing (Resistance)
      Although the values sometimes don't seem to really match the ones in the post, I am nevertheless not getting a short anywhere.

      But i noticed something weird. With the battery and the charger connected, I thought the SYS_DETECT_L was supposed to get pulled low, but instead I get random voltage jumps in the <1V region and therefore PP3V8_AON_VDDMAIN and all inherited voltages aren't present.

      Does this mean that something could be wrong with the battery? I am a bit stumped.

      Have a nice week
      Jonnx

        MacBook Air A2337 - 820-02016 - Stuck at 5v - Varying current draw - Board had short
        by duwane
        Hi All.

        I have an 820-02016 board (A2337 M1) that has come in for data recovery. Reported as liquid damage, but no visible evidence of any liquid damage.

        Board was initially stuck at 5v, and current only spiking occasionally to around 400mA and cycling.

        After initial troubleshooting, found that C7800 (which feeds the power rail PP5V_BSTLQ_VOUT_SPMU) was dead short to ground.

        Replaced C7800 and short gone. Board still stuck at 5v. Current draw behaviour changed. It now spikes up for a second to around 100mA to 130mA, then drops down to...

        I am learning any help is appreciated I have a macbook 820-02016 that is stuck on 5v
        I tested voltage on PPBUS_AON i get 12.6v and it drops to 11.3v I removed fuse f5200 pin 1 PPVBAT_AON_CHGR_REG Becomes stable and no longer fluctuates
        Pin 1 on f5200 is .51 in diode mode
        pin 2 is .46
        Im not sure where to go from here any guidance would be appreciated!...

        Macbook Air M1 A2337 Stuck At 5V

        Hi everyone.
        Found some topics here for the same issue, on the same board, but none with all the same values I have or same steps to correct it. And I could not get usefull information from it.
        So... M1, board 820-02016-A, stuck at 5V. Current is 0.08A and from time to time it jumps to 0.13A and back.

        I measured:
        L5230 - 5.1V
        LC320 - 0V (no short)
        LP800 - 0V (no short)
        L5840/5820/5800 - 3.8V
        F5200 - 12.29V (according to an entry on repair.wiki "If the voltage is approximately 12.28-12.35V, it may indicate a communication issue between...

        MacBook Pro 13 inch A2238 M2 stuck on 5V
        by Bmet
        Hi,

        I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch A2238 M2 and it was stuck 5V with 0 amps. I measured some important lines and I found a short on PP3V8_AON_MPMU_ISNS_VIN, I tried injecting 1v and I saw heat coming from the mPMU so I removed the pmu thinking that was the problem. I don't know why I didn't check the other side of the border but there it was, a shorted cap. I replaced the cap and the short was gone, so I reballed the PMU and put it on again but voltage was still stuck at 5V and the current was fluctuating between 0 and 0.45 amps. I checked under the thermal camera and I saw the mPM...

        Macbook Pro A1706 820-00923-05 Stuck At 5V 0.03A
        by Steven Pieter
        hello everyone, let me ask, I have a macbook which is stuck at 5v and 0.03 A when tested with a usb tester. Previously I wanted to replace the screen on the device, but by accident I forgot to unplug the battery. This caused the MacBook to get stuck at 5v, previously I had replaced the CD3215 (U3100) IC because it was warm. After I replaced it the problem was still not resolved. Please guide. Thank you
