ACER Aspire 5542 does not boot. Can not read BIOS on the motherboard

    Hi,

I am trying to fix an Acer Aspire 5542. Upon turning it on, the fan starts to spin for a few seconds and then it stops. I hear no beeps from the speaker. I have no image both on the laptop screen and through VGA and HDMI connectors.

I measured voltages, and it seems all power supplies are OK. There are 5V, 3.3V (BIOS), 1.8V (RAM), and 1.1V (VCORE).

I tried to read the BIOS using a CH341A programmer, but it did not detect the chip. I took the BIOS chip away from the motherboard, and then the CH341A detected the chip, and I was able to read the code. However, no sooner did I put the chip on the motherboard (even without power), the CH341A stops detecting the chip.

I checked all the BIOS pads on the motherboard, and I did not see any shortcuts.

Could you please give me a hint to fix this laptop?

    Regards,

What you challenged is a absolutely normal behaviour. It is always strongly advised to remove the SPI flash from the motherboard when programming, since the interferences of the circuits may cause either not detecting or in worst case to read out a corrupted dump wothout realising it at all.

        Possibly a bad RS880M anyway.
