    Advent laptop - screen issue?

Somebody on another forum I'm on has this odd issue with unknown model Advent laptop, thought I'd crosspost it here.

Apparently it's fine on external monitor. But it has that odd green discolouration and then goes back to normal which makes me wonder if there's a GPU problem there.

Unsure if it's LED or CCFL.

    Any ideas?

Update, it's a CCFL screen, laptop is an Advent 5712, apparently doesn't go back to normal after login. I've told him he's probably best trying to replace the inverter first (I've seen similar before and they cost £3 each so it's a good place to start)

That's got nothing to do with the inverter. I'd suspect loose/dirty LVDS cable first, cracked LCD second, bad GPU third. I strongly believe it's the screen tho.

Now don't go and tell me the screen isn't visibly cracked - i've seen my share of bad LCDs with weird behaviors, and looking really really carefully, every time there was a hair-thin crack somewhere on the top side, where the chips-on-glass are.

Agree with Th3 its probably a faulty screen / cable. First thing to do is remove the screen bezel and jiggle the cable, if the screen changes you've found your problem. Then try another screen, I try to have an old ccfl screen handy for testing.

did you try to run it in extern monitor?
if yes and the same we all know what you have to do "REFLOW/REBALL"
Just cook it! It's already broken.

In the first post he mentioned that external is OK.
