Re: HP mini 110 HP mini 210
I try reflow as always, to see if will help, if Im 100% what is problem then make reball.
In this case processor got popcorn effect like I say on 160 deg celsius, which is far below from 200-220 so only thing who may cause popcorn is moisture.Comment

Re: HP mini 110 HP mini 210
yes .. i try to reflow this model several times
and always turn popcorn

I doubt it would be from moisture, like, there must be a LOT of moisture in there to make steam and boiling sounds.Muh-soggy-kneeComment

Re: HP mini 110 HP mini 210
this can be caused by moisture, this doesnt mean its visibly wet, it could be a slight, non visible condensation from cleaning with alcohol or other solvents. they may sometimes sip through the surface of the chip and when heated, will form gases, these gases try to exit the surface and pop the chip in the process.
In my opinion the biggest reason for pop corn effect is heat. either too much heat or heating the component too quickly.
To reflow this kind of chip, I would suggest preheating starting with low heat around 50° C from a bottom heater for a couple of minutes, then increase heat slowly to reach 100° C within 5 minutes (this can go higher depending on size of the chip, i've done up to 150° with nvidia gpus) then start applying upper heat in slow bursts or a slow ramp if your using a bga reballing machine, up to usually 180° for chips that are as thin as most cpus we find in mini laps, up to 220°C for bigger chips. try to keep good track of your temps and never exceed 200° when reflowing small cpus.
To answer the thread, I've also found the cpu solder to be the problem in this particular laptop several times as well as in 220,2133, 2140 etc. reflow and or reball has been the solution.

Re: HP mini 110 HP mini 210
Must prebaked chip to avoid popcorning, moisture is in that chip, and than start make bubbles becasue of that. Find Intel data sheet for that atom and find part where talk about baking, but usual must bake on 80-120 deg C for 24h sometime even week, depend on manufacturer specifications for that part.Last edited by primoz1; 09-26-2013, 07:30 AM.Comment

Re: HP mini 110 HP mini 210
Hello, anyone here that know the symptoms if the atom processor fail?
I have Asus X101H power on but no video on internal or external screen. All voltage is present and normal. The atom processor is n455, only get very little warm (i check without heatsink and fan, never get hot even it powered up to 10 minutes) when powered on.
It is processor (n455) or chipset (cg82nm10) faulty?Last edited by chrizzclo; 08-26-2015, 08:15 AM.Comment

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... -

by sam_sam_samI have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails
I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time... -
