    Acer 5920 headphone jack problem

    Hi,

    I am facing a typical problem -

In my Acer 5920 audio is working fine while using internal speakers but when I insert a Headphone jack in Headphone socket (Black) and select Headphone from the auto popup dialog - sound starts playing in left headphone only.

The right channel does not sound - but again when I pull out the headphone jack both channels start playing through the internal speakers.

What may be the cause ? Since the socket seems OK physically.

    Please Help.

Re: Acer 5920 headphone jack problem

I have four different headphones which are working with my other computer as well as other devices such as mp3 player and external firewire sound card.

The problem is only with my laptop - that too just the right channel of my headphone socket.

Already tried - doesn't seems cold solder - may be some discreet component failure in the headphone circuitry. Thanks !

I need PCB layout diagram so that I can troubleshoot myself. Further the socket is of special type - it has provision for sensing jack as well as optical LED at the end, since it works as spdif/digital out also. I also want to know whether I can get the specific socket in the local electronic market or have to approach ACER - if found defective.

Re: Acer 5920 headphone jack problem [SOLVED]

Last week I opened my Laptop and found that there was no dry soldering and the headphones socket's pin were all intact. After inserting a headphone jack I checked the pins on the board and found that both channels signal was present (i.e. left and right) at the pins on the board where the jack was soldered.

Then I realized that there is some problem with the right terminal inside the socket and used a bent pin to just lift the leaf inside the socket a little bit so that it can come in proper contact with the headphone jack.

VIOLA!! the headphone started working with both channels working.

it take 2-3 min to unsolder a audio port ; just change it
Just cook it! It's already broken.
