    Thinpad T43 boot failure

    Hello,
IBM T43 fails at power-on. Green leds lighted and black screen at all. No image from external monitor output.
    MotherBoard schematic as ROME-4 SVTR.
Seems to be a defective capacitor. But, as shown in the schematic, there are plenty of inverters using possible faulty tantalum capacitors.
These are generally systematic faulures, caused by a single damaged component.
Does anyone know wich capacitor could be the damaged one?
    Thanks in advance
    Lean.

Does the 'hold the power button down with all power removed' stuff really do anything?

Hope you get it going, I like the T43.

            Hi,

Thank you all for your reply.
I think there is an inverter out of work.
This weekend i'll be studying this matter with the oscilloscope.
            Best Regards

but if the invertor faulty it should work on a external monitor? i wonder if the gpu chip is faulty ie needs reflowing/re balling. t42 suffer a lot from this problem.

                Re: Thinpad T43 boot failure

Yes the (ATI) chip has weak solder and the board flexes if the laptop is picked up by the bottom corner. The ones I've seen still boot in this state though. Try clearing the CMOS (battery under RAM cover I think).

                It's not a bad inverter.

                  Re: Thinpad T43 boot failure

The failure comes just only at power-on. Once it has booted, it works perfectly. This rules out the flaw in the video chip. So, I must think at processes that occurs only at start-up.
The reset infraestructure is complex enough to be handled in a simple way. I manualy reseted U61 (TSURUMAI, pin 58), with no results. Signals seem to arise correctly, but they are so many that couldn“t evaluate all of them.

The computer makes no sign to be booting, though the process of reinstalling the bios via crisis diskette / LPT key seems to complete succesfully.
Ofcourse, after completing the bios reinstall, all cmos data are cleared to defaults.
The symptoms could be compatible with a faulty EEprom reading used beyond the maximum writing cycles.
if the fault lays in the dynamics of a process, I would not be able to discover it.

                  Best Regards

Nintendo Switch Oled HEG-001: Second-Stage Boot Failure
                    by privato89
                    Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with a HEG-001 motherboard that is unable to complete the Second-Stage Boot. I'd like to start directly with my conclusion, which is the decision to replace the MAX77621AEWI chip, and understand if it could be a correct evaluation.

Before I dive into the process that led me to this decision, I want to mention that I have a fully equipped lab where I can perform any kind of tests.

                    Let's begin:

Following some guides online, I tried to understand how the Boot phase of the Nintendo Switch works, and what are the...

Xiaomi router freezes at boot after re-capping
                    by hinisa
I'm using Xiaomi Router 4A gigabit edition as wireless repeater. It worked fine for 2 years or so, but last week, wireless started to disappear.

When I unplug/replug the power, it was working fine for a day/half a day or so until it freezes again.

After testing with different power supply adapters and concluding it wasn't the issue I finally opened the case and this was the situation:

Anyway I proceed to clean up the mess and replace all caps but unfortunately it made the situation worse. Now router can't even boot, either it freezes during...

                    MacBook pro A2251 Boot failure
                    by yehuday
                    Hi Everyone

I have a Macbook pro A2251 which fails to boot.
When i try to start it the fan momentarily spins full speed, then shuts off and it doesn't start.
This then repeats every few minutes. as if the board is stuck in a reboot loop

When i inspected the PCB i couldn't find any indication of liquid damage
I tried a few SMC reset sequence i found online but none helped (perhaps i did them wrong)

i am capable of opening the case and measuring voltage at test points. i also got the brd and layout files but i have no idea how to debug this...

Samsung un82ru88000f - Boot loop sort of but can correct with taping of LVDS ribbon
                    by NolesFan
Hello all... TV started boot looping. Opened the back panel and tried to isolate the problem. Just PSB no boot loop. PSB and MB no boot loop. Plug in the LVDS from panel to MB and boot looping starts up. It doesnt matter of order that I plug the LVDS ribbons back in, only 1 and no boot loop but as soon as 2nd one plugs in boot looping. I then noticed a flicker on the screen when I was closing the clip on the harness to the LVDS. Shut the lights off so I can see better, and I noticed as i slowly close it, I will get a picture, but as soon as it clips in, I lose picture and booting happens. So I...
