IBM R31 local mouse stick not working

I recently got 30 of these notebooks to repair and sell as used, nice for training.
Most work just fine - after installing Windows XP & Word 2000.
But I have three or four where the little red stick to move the mouse doesn't work.
Already replaced keyboards and inspected the thing visually.
Checked a few site on Google, too.
    No luck.

Does it not work in all operating systems e.g. if you boot a Ubuntu livecd does it still work?

    Schematic:

(yes, these are made by Acer )

Page 27 is the keyboard/trackpoint circuit. Looks like the trackpoint just uses PS/2 mouse-compatible signals via pins 37 and 39 of CN14 (keyboard connector). If you have a 'scope or LA you can check the clock and data lines for activity.

(Or alternatively hook up the trackpoint pins to a PS/2 mouse port on a regular PC and see if it works.)

Just got an IBM R31 with non-functioning Trackpoint - guess what!? There is a setting deep in the BIOS setup involving the Trackpoint mouse, with "enable/disable" options - just click on it and set to "enable" and problem solved!

Dell Optiplex 5050 SFF - strange behavior and service_mode jumper not working anymore
          by MMH3
          Hello,

i have many 5050sff. all of them, and how i experienced over many years for all about 250 DELLs goin through my hands, are fully flashable and can be serviced in any way when the service_mode jumper is set.
Never ever i experienced problems with that.

Now i have one 5050sff machine, where this jumper isnt working at all.
I do not get the normal messge that the jumper is set when booting and a short test with FPT just confirms this. Everything is locked -->> EVEN for reading !?

The history of the machine is that i used it in my office...

GIGABYTE X299 AORUS ULTRA GAMING - SATA PORTS 4-7 NOT WORKING ???
          by DynaxSC
          Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...

          by obelix24
Hi i have one Macbook Air 2020 where touch ID is not working (it's not scanning fingerprints). Touch ID was working before, there is no error message during scanning fingerprint it's just not scanning on screen you can see only fingerprint but there are no red updates as when it's working. Power button is working fine.

I've checked boardview and also schematics but i'm not able to find anything related to TouchID ... i have similar issue on a2338 where there was problem with PP3V0_TOUCHID and after replacing UT610 it was working but here i'm not able to find anything related to...

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
          by ezenia
          Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...
