Dell Inspiron 1525 not charging Battery

    Hello there.
My Dell 1525 stop charging the battery. The front charger indicator (blue) does not light.
I replaced the charger controler MAX8731 (QFN) and checked all the periferial part all looks OK but still not charging.
Laptop work fine with the AC adaptor and if I use a charged battery it also work good.
Li-ion Battery was checked and found to be in good working order.

Does anyone have an ideas for solving this issue?

I don't know what the charging indicator is connected to (will have to find schematic for that) but have you checked if the charger MOSFETs are open, or if there is current flowing into the battery from the charger DC-DC converter (check for voltage across the current sense resistor)?

Thank you so much b700029 for your fast respond,I checked the two charging Mosfets and even replaced them but there is no change-still not charging.I didn't checked the charging current flowing into the battery.I be glad to hear from you how to do it...
I also have the schematic diagram and I will be happy to send you a copy of the file, just ask for it...
      Thank you again

I could easily find the schematic (Wistron Spears, correct?)

Current sense resistor for battery charging is R237. With a high-input-impedance multimeter (at least 1M ohm) measure the voltage across it. It is a 10 milliohm resistor so every amp of charging current will produce 10mV across it. Depending on charging current, there will be a voltage but < 10mV and probably in the uV range if the battery is nearly full.

I had a dell 1525 that was doing the same thing. Mine had a tinny burn whole on the power control chip, about the size of the head of a pin, burned in it. The chip is located just above the battery terminals. I just replaced the board because the boards are cheap for the 1525.

Hi again.Problem solved, the center pin in the DC socket on the mother board was too open and the contact with the charger plug was bad.
Replacing the DC socket solved the problem.

That *should* have given you an error on bootup.

did you mean if he uses a bad dc jack will have an error during bootup?
                    what would be the error?

                        by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

                        Hi Guys,
                        I am seeking some assistance with a Dell Inspiron 3593 FD155 LA-J081P (REV 1.0) (A00) laptop
The laptop is working fine with the adapter plugged in and also with a charged battery.
Problem is that the laptop is not charging the battery. The battery is recognized in the bios but the
ac adapter is listed as 'Not Installed'. So for instance, when a charged battery from another source
loses its charge, it stays on 0%.

                        Hi all,

I'm troubleshooting an issue with a laptop where it doesn't seem to want to charge the battery. The laptop will run off the battery alone and use/drain the battery normally in this situation, it will run off the AC adapter alone, and it will run with both charger and battery connected, but it doesn't seem to charge the battery under any circumstance.

At startup of the laptop, the following error message is displayed by Dell SupportAssist: "Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust...

Dell Inspiron 3542 (Cedar_Intel-MB 13269-1) - RTC battery self-discharging and Realtek LAN issue

Hello, I have issue with Dell Inspiron 3542.

                        Motherboard marking:
                        Code:

The laptop works just fine (on battery and power supply) and doesn't cause any problems, except those described below:
                        1. The first problem is that the RTC/CMOS battery self-discharges after about 2-3 weeks after installing a new battery. I have been installing different batteries (GP, Duracell, Energizer) and the problem still exist.
                        1. The second problem is the LAN network card (Realtek RTL8106E), which is not detected at all in Windows. The BIOS is

                        by ipatch
recently i was gifted a dell inspiron 5567 for wiping the data on the hard drive. (yay me). however i already have a computer that i use, so i have no need for this computer. this computer wasn't without its problems though.

                        1. i had to purchase an adapter to retrofit my older style dell laptop battery cable. (not too expensive) ~= 10 bucks for a 2 pack via amz.

                        2. after that i had to find a spare cr2032 (easily found in my parts bin) and assemble a makeshift cmos battery thanks to some copper foil tape and some heat shrink tubing.

                        got the computer...
