HP530 - Board Damage Due Fried Mosfet Advice Needed

    Hi

Got a HP530 which stopped charging and powering on although the led would blink a little when power supply first inserted but would fade out with no sign of life after

Striped the laptop down to find one on the mosfet had fried and left a bit of a mess on the board. Ive cleaned the section up but there is damage to a copper section which has raised from the board.

Can this be repaired easly or can someone offer advice on a suitable repair option

Using a low wattage soldering iron and some solder wick, carefully clean up the pads for the IC to mount to. Smooth the lifted foil carefully with a wood or plastic tool.

The lifted ones are all together and could likely be reattached to the board with some cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) when you replace the IC. A drop under the edge and hold it down for a minute with a small screwdriver or such. Give it a few minutes to set completely.

When you are ready to replace the IC, I would find a way to hold it in place (lightly) with a clamp of some type. Use some liquid or paste flux and tack solder 2 legs on the other side first. Then do the single one closest in the picture and finally the 3 lifted ones. Then go back and flow them all correctly.

You did not mention the chip number. Do you know it?

Sorry for long time to reply.. chip number is FDS4435BZ if the copper section breaks as it seems very filmsy. what would be the best way to repair or would it be pointless? could I resin in some connection points and attach.

He told you, glue it back down.

With three connected in a row like that it is probably all ground pins.
-> CHECK THAT with the data sheet for the IC.
Worst case fix is to run a wire from the pin to where ever the trace goes.

That's fine pins 1-2-3 are connected together and the trace itself is perfectly visible. solder small wries to the pads to the 1-2-3 pins avoid the copper plane.

                Mosfet Advice
                by Green Probe
Hi, Im looking to replace some EMP21N03 mosfets on an Alienware motherboard, but I'm having trouble finding a legit supplier. The ones that are available from China have pictures with the engraved logo looking very scratchy and sketchy. Nobody in the US sells them. I'm trying to find a compatible mosfet, but I'm not well versed enough to be confident im making the right choice. Does anyone have a suggestion or advice that could help me find the right mosfet? Thanks!

Asus X712EA 3 volts after the first mosfet
                by AppleLover123
                Hey guys,

i have a asus motherboard here and as the title says after the first mosfet (in the picture) there is nothing more than 3.15v.
I injected 19v and max. 1 amp at the charging port and there is not voltage drop or smth. It's just taking 19v and 1 milliamp.
Then i tried to inject 19v and max 1amp after the current sensor and there it first takes 19v and 4 milliamps and after 2 seconds it is taking nothing (no current).
I measured on the coils on board everything seems fine. Also the main power rail is not shorted (infinite resistance).
                Now i thought something...

ASUS ROG Zephyrus GPU Mosfet repeat failure
                by MicroSMD Lab
The board number is GU502DU. I repaired this a couple weeks ago and it came back with the same issue, same mosfet failed (PQH9201). I'm hoping that the GPU was spared this time.
I used the same replacement part (purchased from Mouser) and I'm certain the soldering was done properly since it took just as much effort to remove as before. What could cause this same mosfet to fail? I'm thinking if it was unsuitable then the others would fail too. I looked for similar failures on YTube and the mosfet was replaced with AOE6930 in one instance and AOE6932 in the other but it's possible that the...

Hi there - looking for a good mixed bag of mosfets to get started with and keep in my kit - there are several on Ali express - can anyone recommend a good mixed bag from there or anywhere else - I am doing all sorts of electronic repairs at a repair cafe thanks largely to Richard from “Learning Electronics Repair” videos

Some relevant repairs to date where I’ve needed Fets are DC DC chargers, power supplies, (lots of plug packs) wind turbine controllers,

                thanks in advance ...

                Asus GA502D keeps blowing mosfet
                by Scotchmist
I have an Asus GA502D, it had a blown mosfet which I replaced and the laptop booted into windows, a few mins later it shut off, the same mosfet was blown. I thought maybe just a bad mosfet but same thing happened again, a few mins in windows and shuts off.

I have removed the mosfet and can run the laptop no problem

                The MOSFET is FDPC5018SG

Can anyone point me in the direction of what could be the cause of this, could it be the controller rt3663bc?

                Thanks
