I have a laptop (HP DV6 series) where a little water was spilt on the touchpad. Since then, the touchpad has been erratic. I've noticed that there is now a small deadzone in the middle of the touchpad, and moving your finger across this zone causes the pointer to jump over it. Sometime, the pointer gets stuck in this zone and moves up and down erratically until you reset the hardware (through the mouse control panel). However sometimes, let's say 1 out of 10 times, it does work properly for a few minutes before going haywire again. My question is whether there is anything that can be done to repair the touchpad without replacing it? i.e. is it worth the effort to take the laptop apart and try cleaning the underside of it? I checked the HP web site and they don't have the part either as its part of the whole cover so replacement will be difficult. Thanks for any advice?

Re: Touchpad deadzone
On a side note I've seen the "battery monitoring bus" connected together with the ps2 bus in some acer laptops. A bad battery can make the mouse act up in very random ways. Run without battery and the computer works fine, maybe something you could try since its less work then taking it all apart.Comment

Re: Touchpad deadzone
Just pick up a new touch bad from e-bay and replace it. Going through the trouble of disasembly just to put it back together and having it not work isn't worth it. Whenever liquid is involved on an electronic component like this it's best to just replace it.
I've replaced more Dell touch pads than I can count mostly because the left click tact buttons wear out and you have to pound on them to get them to work. Very frustrating when you have to click on something 3-4 times to get it to register.
Needing to double click just doubles the fun.
Disassembly on Dell's and other manufacturers usually isn't that extensive for just the touchpad. Screws on the bottom of the laptop secure the upper keyboard bezel, keyboard, and main keyboard bezel.
On this model it seems the main keyboard bezel and the touch pad are an assembly. It may mean that the touchpad is permanently affixed to the bezel. You may be able to remove it but you'll never be able to reinstall it. What a crappy design more money for HP I guess.Last edited by Krankshaft; 04-30-2011, 12:05 PM.Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.Comment

by B2L_RepairsHi guys i am new to macbook repairs (i mostly do microsoldering on iphones and android devices. I need your assistance with macbook a1706 (touchbar edition) that came in without touchpad and keyboard functionality. External keyboard and mouse does work but the keyboard and touchpad on the macbook does not work. I changed the touchpad flex, also replaced the touchpad but the issue persisted. I then measured voltage on the board and found that PIN 44-50 of the touchpad connector (J4501) got 11.2V instead of 12.6V. Those pins required 12.6v and they get their 12.6v from PPVIN_S4-TPAD_FUSE . I measure...

by MichelinManHey guys,
Just purchased a CF-20 (mk1) supposedly was all working. However, the seller had done a fresh install of windows 10 but did not install any driver. Seller was adamant the trackpad/touchpad was working.
The touchpad/trackpad does not work. No led lights near the trackpad. The keyboard works, the USB 2 port on the base does not work, The USB 3 ports will recognise a USB 3 flashdrive but did not recognise a USB mouse. The ethernet port on the keyboard section works.
The USB 3 port on the actual tablet section works with no issues.

by siccfixReplaced the keyboard+LED backlight+topdeck unit with a completely assembled aftermarket part a few months ago due to failing keys (Spacebar, X, R; seems to be a common issue for 2020 model). I thought this would also fix my RGB backlight issue but the problem remains, actually it got worse, so it has to be a failing part on the mobo itself. The middle RGB zone can no longer light up blue and is instead stuck on green, even if all kb backlight is turned off that zone stays lit..
Does anyone know what part number the IC labeled UI3 is? Seems to be some kind of LED controller chip....5 Photos - Loading...
