Customer came in with computer consistently restarting and shutting down, they took it to Apple and they said DFU restore should fix this computer. Attempted the DFU restore but it refuses to restore. I was curious if his board was water damaged so I took it out and inspected the board, no water damage or liquid damage. Put board back in, battery holds a charge it seems and works fine without power. Tried DFU restore but no avail, it goes into DFU but it won't restore, it resets then it goes to RESTORE screen on computer. But it keeps restarting. I was wondering if his lid sensor is faulty because when I close the lid, it does not shut off and stays on, would the lid sensor cause issues with restoring the computer if its faulty? I am ruling faulty board or bad lid sensor. Would like some input.. so far nothing can be done to this computer at the moment.

Re: A2442 MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro issue
This is the error message I get when trying to restore.
Failed to restore device in recovery mode, libusbrestore error:21 [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore – 0x15 (21)]
Researched this, and it seems it is going back into recovery once it starts loading the installer to restore. It goes in DFU then it goes into recovery once it tries to restore. Why is this?Last edited by Stephen; 10-02-2023, 01:08 PM.sigpic

Re: A2442 MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro issue
read that thread doesn't seem to address a way to resolve this issue.
Going to try MrMacintosh method with IPSW being dropped into DFU. Crossing fingers and making a sacrificial lamb to the Apple Gods.
UGHHHHHH....now the DFU keeps disconnecting and connecting. WTH AppleLast edited by Stephen; 10-02-2023, 02:53 PM.sigpic

Re: A2442 MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro issue
The operation couldn’t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error 9 - Failed to receive message from device, might be connection problem with USB host. (Communication error, possibly USB disconnection)) [AMRestoreErrorDomain – 0x9 (9)]
Did MrMacintosh restore saw a progress bar for the first time (progress) but then the device cancels....
this is the message at the topsigpic

by Flasman90I have a 2020 Macbook Pro A2289 and after many attempts managed to get it into DFU mode, using my older 2017 A1706 Macbook Pro (Running Ventura 13.7.8). However, when attempting 'Restore', it fails at step 4 of 4, showing the following error:
- "The operation couldn’t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error -1 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg (Generic error)) [AMRestoreErrorDomain – 0xA (10)]
- "The system cannot be restored on this device. Failed to create new state machine for restore [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore - 0xFB1 (4017)]

I have MacBook A2442 which had keyboard replaced and now it doesn't turn on correctly, it have sound chime from time to time and Apple logo shows on the display and there is no backlight on, apple logo appear and stuck on kind of boot loop. But if one of the display flexes is disconnected from the motherboard then MacBook turns of fine with the external monitor and it keeps working fine.
Without keyboard its still have same issue, I don't have second display to replace it and compare but does display can make issues with boot?

by StephenCustomer came in with a board issue, board looks clean, board turns on, he did a software update and he got the infamous Apple boot loop logo. He took it to Apple and Apple said he needed a new board. They attempted to DFU revive restore etc no luck. The board is stuck on the (!) point. I tried DFU myself and no luck. Nothing, board boots up goes into DFU computer turns on with Apple logo when applying the patch and nothing it gets stuck at halfway point and hangs on. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular issue. Board isn't liquid damage from what I can tell...

by Enzo150iHi all,
I have a MacBook Pro A2442 with board 820-02098-A very highly oxydated (water) by an accident.
The customer just need to recover the data (no backups, heh), so we cleaned fully to make it power on.
Fortunately the Mac is still alive but it shows an exclamation mark in a circle (!) (Apple T2 fw issue?) with the text "support.apple.com/mac/restore" and doesn't go further.
We tried to interface with another Mac, but can't get in DFU. Very likely the keyboard is gone too because the water, so we're planning to buy a cheap compatible one just to.... - Loading...
