is something special needed when replacing audio ic?

    Hello.
I was replacing ALC660 on asus x58c two times but still no sound with new chip, but works with original with bad sound. Nex time i replace audio ic in hp 840 g5 and again not work with new chip.

So is there something special needed when replacing audio ic?

Nothing-no special steps. Seems the IC's you got are all bad.

Especially Realtek codec chips are very heat sensitive and need to be worked on quick and with a bit lower temperature.
if possible, try to remove audio chip by heating board from bottom side, not directly from above, this is a method I use
