    820-02098 - a2442 - power cycling

    Hi all,

I have a a2442 with liquid damage mainly at Q5800 and UF800 area. But nothing serious. Also corrosion and burn marks at both USB-C ports (the ones below the magsafe connector). I cleaned all up and replaced the bad USB-C ports.

Ampmeter shows 20V and 0,13A for around 10 seconds and then the Ampmeter reboots. Same behavior on every port.

When reassembled in housing the display lights up and shows battery warning sign, so at least it´s doing something. But only for 10 seconds..

Any idea where to look at? First suspect was CD32.. because of the burn marks and constant power cycling, but they should be fine because of 20V is present.

I appreciate any hints or support

This may be one of those models where a battery is requied to boot.

Suggest to test with a known good battery attached to the board.

20V confirms your CD321x ACE controllers are ok.

Doesn´t make any difference with battery installed. Still cycling every 10s and still showing battery warning sign.

Battery is fully funktional and also charging when connected.

Measure the voltage to ground of each pin on the battery connector. Interested in the voltage level of the SCL and SDA pins which will be used to communicate with the battery's BMS module.

          SYS_DETECT_L: 0.45V
          SMBUS_BATT_SCL: 0.5V
          SMBUS_BATT_SDA: 0.5V
          TP_BMON_IOUT: OL

Measured with red probe on ground.

            SMBUS_BATT_SCL: 0.5V
            SMBUS_BATT_SDA: 0.5V
So these are DIODE mode readings and likely denotes them to be ok but let us confirm.

Now use DC voltage mode on your meter. Apply power to the logic board.

Red meter probe onto SMBUS_BATT_SCL, black meter probe to ground.

            What is the measurement?

Repeat with SMBUS_BATT_SDA. Each should be ~1v8 if ok.

              Sorry, my mistake.

I can confirm both SMBUS_BATT_SCL and SMBUS_BATT_SDA are at 1v8.

                After some more testing:

PP5V_S2SW_USBC01 and PP5V_S2SW_USB23 are both 0V because enable is missing (P5VUSBC01_EN and P5VUSBC23_EN, both coming from the CD3217.. ). Acc. To schematic this is critical.
No matter if powered up via magsafe or each USB port, it's always missing. Could this be the reason maybe? Unfortunately I don't have a working board to compare.

Maybe this also explains the power cycling of the USB-C meter.. I once read this is always related to an issue with the CD32s in some way.

Hello, i have the same port cycling problem at 20V in the same board, did you solved in someway?

Hi, having an issue with A2442 getting 20v around 200mA cycling every 2 or 3 second, same on every usb-c Port. No water damage. PP3V8_AON is 0.100 in diode mode and 100Ohm resistance to ground. When I measure the voltage it 3.8v stable that goes on and off every 2 to 3 second. When I inject voltage it doesn’t consume much only 6mA that is not a short.

Compared to similar broad diode mode is 0.330 and resistance in kilo.

I don’t know what to do next ?

Hello everybody, I could use some help on this one... It's got me guessing...
I took pictures of all the boards and the pin out of the connector on the power supply that goes to the main board... I measured all the pins in relation to chassis ground, here are the result.

                    (B13v)1. 12.7 volts cycling (Vamp) 2. 12.7 volts cycling
                    (B13v)3. 12.7 volts cycling (PWM5) 4. 1.0 volts cycling
                    (OD_LE)5. 2.8 volts cycling (PWM4) 6. 0.9 volts cycling
                    (OD_ON)7. 2.8 volts cycling (PWM3) 8. 0.9 volts cycling
                    9. ground (PWM2) 10. 0.9 volts cycling...

                    Hi all

There's two other threads about this monitor with seemingly the same problem. The problem was resolved in one case by replacing the entire PSU board and in the second one by replacing an unknown IC.

                    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=40512

The first one has pictures of the pcbs and I noticed that there's one IC and assorted caps not populated on mine (but the PCB itself looks identical) so I thought that'd warrant a new thread.

It's my dad's old monitor. He...

                    by rilley
                    Hello everyone,
I am new into this, sorry to post it here. I want to make this as a pet hobby project, as this mac is not urgent.

                    I have (Macbook Pro 13inch 2017mid) A1706 820-00923-A

My mac had liquid damage a long time ago, the connector from J8500 is damaged on pin 46 (PP5V_S0_ALSCAM_F), I guess the LCD/display panel is in short circuit, as I saw the connector from the LCD burned as well.

And the resistor L4004 is literally burned.

From what I see from the schematics, it does not affect any other rails, only the connection to the display...

                    usbc connector replacement on mobile
                    by drscoot
I replaced the broken usbc connector on this Ciontek CS50 mobile device. It worked fine afterwards, although it looks like the battery went down quickly and the device got warm at the back (battery section). After putting it in standby for a while it didn't came back anymore?
The battery is still charging (red led), but no power on.
I had another look at the usbc connector, it looks like one of the components is melted down (blue marking)? I have a picture of an untouched device and then the repaired device with 2 pictures; what are these components with B1 and PB marking? Are these...
