remove the 2 capacitor and 2 mosfet marked in green. take note of monsfet position and place. them measure resistance on 0.2 omh spot again.

After removing the two mosfets and the capacitor I get 0.8 ohms :

go on oppsite side of the board, scrap yellow zone till copper (very gentle to reveal copper) and measure resistance here if it's 0.8omh.
then trace that big line marked with green arrow and try to see till where it goes.

if u have lab psu, u can try inject 1 volt and see if that marked green component become hot, but before that follow that line to see if it stop here (under gpu bracket) or goes on.,


edit: wait before all that, clear these 2 pins marked yellow on second picture.... scrap the metal around them.

Not to offend anyone but i think this type of burnt boards require expert handling and there is a bright chance that board goes beyond repair by wrong steps. Physical inspection is the key here and sometime decision taken based on online pics can be suicidal.The OP may/may not have all the necessary tools/skills to do the job.

This is an expensive board,so i'll strongly suggest to take it to someone who is professional in laptop repairs.

Should I scrape more around the two little spots?

For the voltage injection, nothing draws current (psu stays at 0amps)

u did a good job till the last one , where u have to scrape just the 2 little holes, and not the area around them since the burned zone is in that 2 holes. till now board can start without dedicated gpu and it should work just fine.

on the attached picture, measure resistance on the green area. if it's low remove that component. if it's high just scrap with a thin scrape that 2 yellow marked holes a bit , but u have to be careful to not damage more the area that is aready burned.
if u look at the second attached picture, the 2 yellow holes should not touch the big copper part.
to perfectly fix it we should need a boardview for it to see where these holes goes to (i suspect they are gnd)

i rather wont buy a board that costs as much as whole notebook.the thread owner is asking and im replying back. it's up to him to already know that hes working on an expensive board (few laptop sold, few spare parts and price get higher) till the last attempt he did a good job. the scrape was not invasive, and if he fix the short he just need to solder a wire.

The two little holes are 0L. I scraped them a bit and they are still 0L.


As for the concerns, I understand the risk I am taking and for now I'd rather use this as a learning experience.

I have an idea of where you want me to go with that!

instead of using blade on the 2 hole side would have been more precise to use a rotating tip drillo to isolate perfectly the hole from the sorrounding copper.

measure again the resistance on the 0.8omh u had before and on the green spot of last post.

The resistance is still 0.8 ohms and the green spot has not changed.
I will buy a dremel to scrape the two yellow dots.

perfect. so propblem must be related in the 2 hole zone.

if u want u can put all component back except the big resistor that bridge the 20v line u have to the damagez zone.

all component back except the green marked resistor

this is the problem diagnostic:

green zone is the 20 volt line, while the blue is the ground.

the yellow mark show where the problem was and caused the 20volt line to touch the gnd and make the board burn.

our goal was to isolate the spot (yes using internet picture ) but the mechanism is very simple. remove the small connection created from gnd to 20volt line.

after the connection is spotted and removed , the mainboard after a good (very good) inspection, uv mask can go back to normal work.

After putting back all components, I’ll wait for my dremel and make sure to scrape the two little holes.

I’ll then check continuity between the 0.8ohms spot and ground.
I assume this should be higher.

When this spot is no more shorted to ground, I’ll place back the bridge resistor.

i get money when i have mainboard in my hand
all the things i do online without shipping me something to work on i do for free.

to put back the resistor (not capacitor) u have to be sure 100% the short is gone and cant occurr again in that area.

for dreamel tips: tont use the sand paper to scrap; better use the metal ones , even more better if they are already been used and lost some of their "power to scrap".

there are tools for that purpose on aliexpress that costs not so much. they are used to get rid of the solder mask on the copper; expecially in console modding.
