    Apple A1708 charging problem

    Hi all,
    we have a MacBook Pro A1708 with board 820-00840-A that initially had U3200 (one of the CD3215C00) in short. We replaced both and now on one Type-C port charger goes up to 20V and on the battery pin the we have about 12V, but on the other port the charge is stuck to 5V with no PP3V3_G3H (that's strange). Already checked resistors and capacitors solder and all seems ok.
    We found that when, on the other port, the voltage goes up to 20V this value is present on both U3100 and U3200 caps (C3101 and C3201) that should not (am I right?), so Q3100 or Q3200 is in short (we still have to check which one).
    Before starting to investigate the 5V problem we want to replace the two mosfet.
    Since FDPC4044 (found on schematic PDF) mosfet aren't available anymore on the market is there any alternative? Or we are stuck to find a dead motherboard to pick components from or buying something from Aliexpress?

    Any tip for the 5V in case, after replacing the mosfet, still persist?
    Remember, works good on one port (PP3V3_G3H 3.4V ok, 20V ok), but not on the second (Both ports looks pretty good, there's a way to test them?).

    Thanks!

    Check the LDO rails on each non working cd3215 ace controller.

    Also review the how to reach 20v article by @Piernov and gang on logiwiki. The flow chart is posted there.

    Update this thread as you troubleshoot.

        Re: Apple A1708 charging problem

        Hi,
        while we wait the new mosfet I've made some measurement by looking at steps on logi.wiki (CD3215 Bootup Sequence), and it fails at step 3.
        HV_GATE1 = 1.7V
        HV_GATE2 = 5V
        PPDCIN_G3H = 1.6V
        TBA_VDDA = 0V
        PM_EN_P3V3_G3H = 0.4V

        I've not continued in measuring, since this fails.
        We removed the mosfet and the HV_GATE1 and 2 are respectively 6V and 11V.

        In the attached picture there is the port that can't reach the 20V status.

          The new MOSFET has been arrived and replaced the old one and the Mac now goes on 20V on both ports, charges and powers on!

            Apple Watch Charging Controller Schematics / Boardview - 820-02601
            by a_p3rson
            Hi there,

            I'm looking for anyone who might have information on Apple's embedded Apple Watch charging daughterboard, ID 820-02601. This is currently used by Anker in their Apple Watch charging products, but likely by other Apple partner brands as well.

            You can see the board referenced in ChargerLab's teardown of the Anker Y1811 3-in-1 MagSafe cube - they discuss the "Apple Watch wireless charging circuit" about 2/3rds down the page. It's not pictured, but the board ID reads 820-02601-A, which sure sounds like Apple.
            This daughterboard uses an interesting...

            Apple macbook Pro Retina A1398 Battery not charging
            by fisha
            Hallo everyone, my A1398 do not charging the battery and the battery also do not bin recognized. I did all the reset work, SMC reset and all the other reset options but nothing helped. on the SMC at pin 2 (DCIN) there are 20,4V coming in. at pin 16 (BGATE) which goes to the Q7155 Gate there are only 11,43V. at the pin 1,2 and 3 on the Q7155 (Source) there are 12,23V. Cap C7126 is not shorted. As I understand, the gate voltege have to by higher then the source voltege for the gate to clous so the battery can be charging, am I right? can someone help me with this? I guess that manny models are working...

            Apple 820-000923-A not charging
            by ktmmotocross
            Hello.
            Have this Apple with board 820-000923-A that not charging. one port was not registering power. found low rezistance on USB_TA_CC1. after chip UB300 desolder, rezistance change to normal. other ports have still only 5V but now goes from 512mA to 123mA.
            can charging work without this ic or all chips must be placed?

            any hint what to check next?
