Uniden Bearcat BC 760XLT scanner no audio repair

Got today two Uniden BC 760XLT vintage scanners in for repair.
Complaint: extremely weak / no audio.

IC5 TDA1905 is the audio IC. Replace 4 electrolytic capacitors that are in a row next to the audio IC. See picture. When you are at it, change the capacitor for the 8V (7808) as well.

Easy Saturday evening fix. Time for more

I agree eccerr0r. Was a perfect Saturday evening repair after a hard week at work. Not complicated, straight forward and schematics to boot. It’s nice to catch a break like that once in a while. Lately it has been everything else but RF and audio to fix.

you ever see the backlight fail?

i had a light like that on my tuner fail once - replaced it with one intended for a vcr deck.

cant do that now, so i'd have to find another way - maybe an led of some type and a defuser.

Yes, I did. It's just a small bulb. If it would be mine, I'd convert it over to LED. There are some diffused, milky square (cube style) LED's that I use for something like this. They diffuse really well behind displays. Got those from Digi-Key a while back. Then I use a LED driver like an NSI45020 or an AL5809.

Bearcat 300 scanner no display, has audio and squelch repair
            by CapLeaker
I found an old Bearcat 300 scanner that had no display, but the audio and squelch worked, over at my workplace. This unit has a lot of hours on it. It had some capacitor replacements and other mods done to it too before I found it. To troubleshoot this problem, the usual is to check the +25v and -30V and replace C98 on the main board. That should fix it. There is also a case of a shorted button board (just unplug that ribbon cable and the display should work again). Spoiler alert! Was not the case on this one.

My display didn't work, because I had a missing -10V on the display...

Help troubleshooting an audio problem with an RCA SGT-250 CED Player
            by samson7point1@yahoo.com
The Problem: This player has a toggle switch to select between Stereo, Mono R, and Mono L. Regardless of the setting it outputs the sound to both the L&R audio jacks. In the Mono R position, the audio output level is normal (from both the L and R audio output jacks), in the Stereo position the audio output is about half the volume, and in Mono L, it's about 3/4 the volume. Something about putting it into Stereo mode is causing the volume to drop significantly and I can't figure it out.

The player processes the audio signal using two different reference frequencies. The "R"...

Roland KR-3500/4500 Digital Piano. Crackling audio sound on all keys -Fixed
            by i_am_patch
Hi All. I had a Roland KR-3500 Digital Piano (similar to the KR-4500) that exhibited a Crackling audio sound on all keys. After reading somewhere about someone with a similar issue who had replaced all the Electrolytic caps I decided to also go down that route. (Spoiler : It worked !) After some basic troubleshooting I determined that it could be noise feeding thru from the Keyboard scanning since the Demo tunes played back undistorted and the Audio amp / speakers were fine ( Inserted an Audio signal into the rear Audio input). After extracting the main board from the shield, I replaced 7 Capacitors...

What are these components that detect paper in a fax scanner
            by waigy
            PROBLEM SOLVED
I DIDN'T REALISE MY SMALLEST SOLDERING TIP COULD JUST FIT BETWEEN THESE COMPONENTS.
I MANAGED TO REMOVE THEM WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE BOARD AND I HAVE MY INTENDED END RESULT.

On a Possio PM70 portable fax machine which has a scanner that detects when you push a piece of paper into the scanner slot.
It is these two small (3mm long) components that detect the paper and start the scanner feed motor which pulls the paper into the scanner.
(These are on the circuit board for the keypad and not the main board)

I want to disable these as...

Monitor Audio RSW12 - Green light but no audio
            by MOSSEP
            Hi

Im hoping someone might be able to give me some idea of what may be wrong with my Monitor Audio RSW12 Sub.

Ive owned it since new in around 2002, so would really like to keep it running if I can, it was the first ‘decent' bit of audio equipment I ever purchased and is a little sentimental.

The issue I had was that it would power up with the red light, but sometimes the green light would not come on and I would get no bass from it. If the green light did come on though, I would get sound out of it.

I have already tried replacing all of the...
