PS5 EDM-033 - 2 sec BLOD - CPU and RAM not coming up

    Hi,
Bought a defect console eager to repair.
    Seller was not very communicative.
Upon arrival I noticed UART Pads had been soldered previously.
    Read it out and got:
80810001 General power failure (periphery, GDDR6, APU, data line shorted)
F*CK. Had That before with a chipped APU. But this APU die looked good. However I found flux around it - previously reflowed?

Boot sequence is quite right 325 mA dropping to 9 mA.

Using the thermal camera I can see the SSD controller and South bridge getting warm.
But APU and RAM stay cool (=not initializing?).
Could find no shorts on the SSD controller.
But nearly all Caps from all RAM ICs read dead short.
APU rail also measures quite short.

Except for a totally shorted APU, what could I look out for?

Hmm, found something. The rail from attached picture is dead short (marked red). Is this the RAM rail?
    The mosfet measures fine.
When injecting voltage only the direct contact point on the rail is heating up.
    Internal short on PCB?

You have a short near F7002, that code you got is wrong/misleading.

        Hi BwE,
Nice to read you here. I appreciate your work related to console debugging. Please excuse that, as a hobbyist and Linux user, I didn't use your tool with the proper code database.

However, I did quite extensive short checking on various caps - maybe I missed one.
Dou you think this could relate to the mentioned VRAM rail being shorted(=dead short)? I don't see a direct path.

Im not on my PC now so I can't manually look up the code again. It's a 1.8v short? I'll edit this post later if I remember sorry!

Think I'm getting somewhere. One of the tantalum caps measures dead short. Never had them fail before. Maybe because of the low value short and the black colored housing it didn't stick out on thermal camera?
BTW. what are healty APU power rail resistances? If I'm not mistaken there are two phases. Shoud both measure the same?

              Okay - success!
The APU power rail was shorted over one mosfet. Was quite a hassle to isolate the faulty one :-D.

              Finally I got picture :-)

Just noticed a typo in the title. It was a EDM-031 board. But only difference should be digital vs disk version.

How have you handled the fault finding? I have aN EDM-020 with the exact same problem, power rails read nearly short and SSD:/Southbridge start up when powering on but APU/memory is not booting. Did you desolder the DRMOS one by one or is there are better way to do this?

Can you specify which MOSFET was at fault? Maybe pin point on the board? That will help the community.

Extreme High Current & Low Voltage Short Killer ??
                    by DynaxSC
                    Hi Folks

I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.

I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...

MacBook Pro 14" A2442 Short on PPBUS_AON but no short present when injecting voltage!
                    by Stephen
I check PPBUS_AON and there is a short present on the line, the computer shows a short when testing for short to ground, so when I inject voltage into the line, I get 0AMPS so no short is showing up. I have replaced a blown cap on this board that exploded and tested for the short and it is now removed. Any suggestions? I tested voltage at the line when the fuses are connected and I am getting 1.2 Volts at the line.

Acer Nitro 5 LA-L181p power LED turns on by 5 secs (Short on PCH rail?)
                    by Victor Moreira Silva
                    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to repair my old Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54-55T5). I've already bought a new laptop, so this is more of a learning project. For the experience, with no high expectations of success.

Well, my decice specs are the following:

                    Model: Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54-55T5
                    CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H
                    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
                    Motherboard: GH51G LA-L181P Rev:1c

                    The symptom:
When pressing the power button, the power LED lights up for about 5 seconds and then turns off. Initially, the issue was intermittent: sometimes...

Help me find the short circuit on this WORKING Nvidia GTX1650
                    by aaronkatrini
                    Hi all,

Recently picked up this GTX1650 at a local flea market for a low price and wanted to use it on my secondary PC. I first tested the card and saw the fan spin for a split second and then nothing. Immediately I thought of a short circuit. Disassembled and found a shorted SMD capacitor, injected voltage into it (1V/4A) and two Mosfets got hot immediately (QN3103 & QN3107). Desoldered these Mosfets and the card turned back to life.

Bought replacements from Aliexpress and replaced them afterwards. Tried the card but still the saw the fan spin for a split second...

450watt power supply 5v, 3.3v short to ground wire,in output rail ,connectors
                    by playit
hello everyone , working zebronics power suply 450 watts , 5v ,3.3v givin short to ground black wire, also in circuit at output, resistor was charred but shows right values , after removing resistors 39ohms, 51 ohms, there was no short , no continuity beeps with ground , but after replacing new resistors (now i am not switching it on) ,again short still exists . when i put bigger ohm resistor like 100k ohm , no short beeping sound comes , lower ohm resistor gives continuity beeps ,other big ones donest , as its a working psu , i am confused what to remove now or how to go further now .
