BIOS for ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 Rev 1.01 required

    Hello,

Am looking at a friend's desktop PC which after a BIOS update no longer boots and displays random behaviour.
I have tried doing a BIOS update with the quickflash USB method which runs for around 70 seconds which seems short for a 8mb file - but this hasn't helped.

    The motherboard is;

ASUS TUF Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 rev 1.01

I have a CH341a programmer and I have removed the Winbond 25Q64FVA DIP8 chip from the mobo and done a dump which is attached:

Please could someone have a look at the file if it is corrupt and tell me which version BIOS it is - much appreciated

    Thanks,

    Mark

Thank you very much for your quick response

      I erased the chip.
Flashed it (took over 3.5 mins)
      Verified ok.

The first time I powered it on, the CPU LED switched on then went out, then the RAM LED switched on - then the mobo powered off.
Then it powered on again, the CPU LED came on and stayed on

The mobo responds to reset or holding the power switch but it either stops on the CPU LED, then powers off and sometimes just power cycles without the CPU LED switching on.
The green power LED turns on & off correctly if PSU is on/off.

I have tried clearing CMOS and removing the backup battery but makes no difference.
      No beeps on the speaker.

I have checked and reseated the CPU (i5-4460 SR1QK) and all pins look fine.

      Anything else I should try?

      Thanks,

      Mark

Double check your procedure, the bioa file I posted has the MAC, serial and UUID added.

          Hi,

          Ok, procedure is;
          Plug chip into Ch341a.
          Plug programmer into laptop.
          Start programmer software.
Detect chip - check it is correct (25Q64FV)
          Read
          Erase
          Write
          Verify
          Shutdown laptop
          Install chip back into socket
Press power on while keeping fingers crossed.

If the MAC, serial or UUID is incorrect - will that be the issue?

          Thanks,

          Mark

              Thank you for your help.

Using ASprogrammer, I opened your file, then clicked on 'detect chip' and from the list of 3 selected 25Q64FV.

On the 'Programme IC' menu I clicked on: Erase, Blank Check, Write & Verify.
Then I clicked on Programm IC and it started.

It took 2min 43secs to write and 1min 10secs to verify.
              Success was confirmed.

Then I put the chip back in the mobo socket, inserted the backup battery, connected the PSU 24 pin & 12v connectors and all front panel switches and a speaker.

              The first power on;
turned PSU on and the green LED illuminated.
Pressed the power switch and the red CPU LED illuminated.
The RAM LED also flashed briefly.
Then after about 0.5 second the CPU LED turned off and RAM LED illuminated.
The RAM LED was illuminated for about 1 second then turned off.
              Nothing more happened.
The CPU heat lid was warming up.

After this firm power on all it does is powers on and stays on the CPU LED.
When the CPU LED turns on the CPU fan speed increases slightly.
Responds to reset switch and when power switch is held for 4-5 seconds.

Try manual select chip, not auto detect.

This time I selected the IC manually from the list: SPI -> WINBOND -> W25Q64FV

                  Flashed in same way.

Took battery out while it was flashing.
                  Then installed chip then battery.

Turned on PSU power and green LED illuminates.
                  CPU fans comes on.
After 5 seconds red CPU LED illuminates and fan speeds up little bit.
After 3 seconds the power turns off.
Then after 2 seconds it starts up again CPU fan spins and red CPU LED illuminated and fan speed increases a little bit.
                  Then it stays like this.
If I reset, it starts up and stays with CPU LED on and fan spinning.
If I hold power button it turns off after 4-5 seconds and if I press again it turns back on.

With ASUS, not everything is quite so simple. I will show you my way. It may be longer or harder but it is the right way to do it in my humble opinion.

For example, you can have 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all being the same model, all of which will have different BIOS versions.

I will give you an example and my version of preparing BIOS from ASUS website and in the process I am always cleaning Intel ME while doing it so you have fully cleaned BIOS, no DMI data, no password, nothing.

This is the picture of 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all of them being X555LD...

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.

I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...

Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                    Some issues
                    A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                    Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

                    Hi there,

                    I'm a technician and a computer/retro computer lover.

I just bought a great Sabertooth motherboard (I really love the colours and the ASUS military scheme) to install a nice FX-8320 from AMD and make a gaming computer with a Geforce GTX 970.

For the first time I had problems with the system, but I solved and then correctly booting, I installed Windows 10 and then I started to overclock the system. I reached a stable configuration of 4,8GHZ with 1,475v.
Then I saved fan configuration, and other parameters, and saved to the overclock profile...
