Re: Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo - no power
Thanks for the tip. I tried it but didn't make any difference.
Oh, doesn't sound encouraging.
BTW when I tried the hairdryer I measured the big 400v cap and plugged in it was only reading 209/210v.
When unplugged it wasn't holding a residual charge - just showed up as 90-100ma 20 seconds after unplugging it. Does that mean it's dried up/bad?...

Re: Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo - no power
Sorry my mistake I mixed them up!
I've probed them again and getting yet different readings
I'm going to remove them from the pcb to test....

Yes, close up pics below.
R1011: brown - orange - gold - gold = 1.3
R1043: red - purple - gold - gold = 2.7
It has what looks like a couple of cracks on the body;

Re: Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo - no power
I've finally done some testing.
Capacitor C1032 - top right - 10uF 16v removed and in my multimeter;
Starts at 8.88 and reduces settling at 8.68uF;
Resistor R1011 (brown|orange|gold|gold) shows a changing value in the 2000k range - 1557k, 1605k...
Resistor R1043 (red|purple|gold|gold) shows 02.7 ohms.
Diode D017 shows .155 one way and OL the other way;

Re: Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo - no power
A number on the pcb which looks like a P/N: BH951 0F01 02
C1032 is the small cap in top right as mentioned by vinceroger69 & stj - it is 10uF 16v.
I'll try to test it out later or tomorrow.
Yes the small cap next to the 400v one is the 10uF 16v one.
No chips on it just transistors, large mosfets (?) and a 4 pin rectangular thing - see pics.
Thanks....

Re: Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo - no power
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
No I haven't done anything except for an AC & visual check.
What is the best way to check/test it?
Thanks,
Mark...

Re: Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo - no power
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
There are three which fit the range;
10uF 50v
22uF 50v
10uF 16v
See 3rd attached pic with capacitor values shown.
Thanks,
Mark...

Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo - no power
Hi,
I have a Hitachi DV-PF4E VCR/DVD Combo unit which is dead - no power.
Last used and working ok about a year ago.
Then it has stood unused in the tv cabinet unplugged from the mains.
I went to use it this week, plugged it in and nothing happens, no display/lights, no response when pressing standby button.
Opened to check and fuse ok, ac supply ok, caps all look ok, other components & pcb look ok with no trauma visible.
Any cause for it to just go 'bad' by not being used for a year?
Thanks,...

Re: BIOS for ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 Rev 1.01 required
This time I selected the IC manually from the list: SPI -> WINBOND -> W25Q64FV
Flashed in same way.
Took battery out while it was flashing.
Then installed chip then battery.
Turned on PSU power and green LED illuminates.
CPU fans comes on.
After 5 seconds red CPU LED illuminates and fan speeds up little bit.
After 3 seconds the power turns off.
Then after 2 seconds it starts up again CPU fan spins and red CPU LED illuminated and fan speed increases...Last edited by Markie76; 12-03-2022, 06:45 PM.

Re: BIOS for ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 Rev 1.01 required
Thank you for your help.
Using ASprogrammer, I opened your file, then clicked on 'detect chip' and from the list of 3 selected 25Q64FV.
On the 'Programme IC' menu I clicked on: Erase, Blank Check, Write & Verify.
Then I clicked on Programm IC and it started.
It took 2min 43secs to write and 1min 10secs to verify.
Success was confirmed.
Then I put the chip back in the mobo socket, inserted the backup battery, connected the PSU 24 pin & 12v connectors...

Re: BIOS for ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 Rev 1.01 required
Hi,
Ok, procedure is;
Plug chip into Ch341a.
Plug programmer into laptop.
Start programmer software.
Detect chip - check it is correct (25Q64FV)
Read
Erase
Write
Verify
Shutdown laptop
Install chip back into socket
Press power on while keeping fingers crossed.
If the MAC, serial or UUID is incorrect - will that be the issue?
Thanks,
Mark...

ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 - CPU LED on & occasional power cycle
Hello,
Am looking at a friend's desktop PC which after a BIOS update no longer boots and displays random behaviour.
I have tried doing a BIOS update with the quickflash USB method which runs for around 70 seconds which seems short for a 8mb file - but this hasn't helped.
The motherboard is;
ASUS TUF Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 rev 1.01
When turned on it starts up and stays on the red CPU LED and nothing else.
If I reset CMOS and start again then sometimes it powers cycles a few times with no LEDS (apart from green power LED) then...

Re: BIOS for ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 Rev 1.01 required
Thank you very much for your quick response
I erased the chip.
Flashed it (took over 3.5 mins)
Verified ok.
The first time I powered it on, the CPU LED switched on then went out, then the RAM LED switched on - then the mobo powered off.
Then it powered on again, the CPU LED came on and stayed on
The mobo responds to reset or holding the power switch but it either stops on the CPU LED, then powers off and sometimes just power...

I have a CH341a programmer and I have removed the Winbond 25Q64FVA DIP8 chip from the mobo and done a dump which is attached:
Please could someone have a look at the file if it is corrupt...

Yes, I thought these might be those new self-regenerating resistors invented by that super clever teenager entrepreneur with his crowd funding project...
As you can clearly see above, another knowledgeable member asked me the question which I answered....

Re: Dumpster find LCD with Megmeet MP123 PSU with frazzled components - ideas please.
Non of the resistors give a consistent reading.
For example R147 starts on 0 jumps to 20m then drops down to 130k then jumps up to 300k then 1m and starts going up.
Measure it a second time and it behaves similarly but in different intervals....
