    Avoid Soltek Boards!

Personally, we should avoid buying Soltek mainboards, because a lot of GSC brand electroyltic capacitors are bulging on them.

One of these boards was in a server at TAFE, and a few others were in build kits (training).

According to www.gsc-cap.com, they started business in mainland China in 2003 (This must explain why their electrolytics are failing!)

Until Soltek improves the quality and reliability of their boards through better electrolytic capacitors, avoid them at all costs, unless you want to risk damage to installed memory modules and even your CPU!
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Current Soltek boards are decent, mine has almost all Sanyo and Chemicon, there are a few low value OST caps. But they have stopped making mainboards so dont have to think about them to much.

werent soltek the first to give out free replacement caps. they should be credited for that. at least they tried to make good somewhat when other manufacturers were denying everything.

have they really stopped making boards? they have a few on their site. Too much competition in graphics cards really, and these SFF systems are they really selling that great?

Flash is awesome, you can disable it in your browser if you will but damn there are so many cool flash animations.

easiest way to block/disable flash is to not install it.
                          works for me.
only a fool would write an all flash website.
and i am not alone.a common question from my customers is how do i disable this dammed flash crap.

                            flash is ok used sparingly.

this is definitely not sparingly but impressive though

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
                                by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

                                Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Apple M1 Boards & Exclamatory Error?
                                by ugamazing
We've now created a stack of 10 boards that have the same issue, which we suspect to be CPU-related. The issue is very simple--the board will not boot to anything, only showing the exclamatory sign inside a circle. No amount of DFU/restore, wipe/erase, etc, will resolve the issue. No boards have physical damage. We went ahead and replaced the SSD nands on two boards (one 02020, one 02016) and the issue remained exactly the same. We are considering replacing the CPU on one of the boards using a locked CPU, just so we can see if it resolves the issue.

Has anyone else run into this...

the tv's screen logical boards get power from the mainboard so if there is a short or open component on it this can or will affect the screen logical boards in some way. but is it possible that the opposite would damage some component on the mainboard ? thank you...

Best place to source RAM chips? 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB
                                by ugamazing
I'm looking to upgrade several 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB for personal use. I am curious what the best practice and process is for sourcing new replacement chips, and what vendor(s) you guys prefer? Another question is, how do I find compatible chips and their corresponding part/model numbers? For example, in the 820-00850 schematic, the DDR chip U2600 model listed (EDFB232A1MA) corresponds to 1x32GB chip. Of course, I would need 4x8GB chips to replace the 4x2GB chips currently on the board. How do I find compatible 8GB chips? Is it as simple as searching "BGA178 8GB 2133"...
