    Rare Teapos on Abit ST6

    I've just bought over a ST6 from someone. All the caps are from Teapo;

    - 10 x 2200uf6.3v, 10mm diameter
    - 7 x 1500uf6.3v, 8mm diameter

I was considering replacing all the caps as a precautionary repair, when I realised that the 8mm dia. 1500uf6.3v part is nowhere to be found in Singapore, including Farnell/RSS SG. Some of them were lined up without any gap, thus it's kind of impossible to use the more common Rubycon ZL/Sanyo WX 10mm dia. ones.

Is it safe to keep them as it is, or use 1000uf6.3v (I have some brand new Rubycon 8mm for this value) caps, or any kind soul is willing to ship 8mm 1500uf6.3v to Singapore?

Went to the local Simlim Tower, searched out the shops. No signs of KZGs 8mm 1500uf6.3v, but LOTs of OST and a few Teapos and LTECs (good??) with the same dimension/spec.

I got the mysterious Panasonic FJ 2200uf6.3v though, in 8mm diameter (small!)

Wondering whether the FJs are appropriate for replacement, since there's no data on them. Also the Ltec caps, seldom heard of.

i would go with the FJ 2200uf6.3v 8mm incredibly small

        ltec = shit

check your technique though, you screw up several board recently.

Thanks for the info on FJ and Ltec. Yup, carelessness on my part to have screwed up a perfectly working CUSL2-C. Fortunately the GA-6VEM is working.

Sometimes, there are benefits to checking parts of higher ratings. Rubycon makes a 1500uF, 10V, 8mm capacitor in both MBZ and MCZ series.

I'm having difficulty in getting the MBZ/MCZs. YXFs, YXGs and ZLs are much more common locally. Looks like I'll go for the Panasonic FJs.

I've got more FJs home. But on closer observation, the bottom bung is not the usual ones seen on Panasonic caps. There are no complex patterns on the bung, and the label on the cap looks very faint.

Wonder it's a fake. The shop was selling other caps of odd brands never heard before too.

can you get a pic of the bottom bung? if it is not advanced shape then must be fake.....

                    Yeah, pictures (apologise for blurness):

On the left is my leftover 330uf25v FC, right is the supposedly 2200uf6.3v FJ

Notice the faint prints on the FJ.

The vent is those T type found on Panasonic caps. But not as deeply cut in as compared to the legit ones.

Pic coming up in 12 hours time when I get back home.

if they are fake they are pretty good. I havent seen 8mm panasonic caps so i cant say whether they normally have complex bung shape.

gonna have to unroll an FC and FJ to really compare. check also to see if the bung is same material as the FC when you do that.

Just secure them and cut with a penknife?

im curious about your FJ, please compare it with mine (they are 10mm diameter):
                                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=720 (Panasonic FJ capasitor)

are the bung still thick (pooped out)?

if i remember, on some pannys series, due to the small values/diameter, the advanced shape would gone but they are still thicks/popped out (FC, GE, TE, MH). but they are still original.

also look really carefully for the fonts. they are good at imitating the real one, like my rubycon YXG (fake)... https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=721

Re: Rare Teapos on Abit ST6

to dissect the capacitor what i do is to first take the sleeve off with a knife then i slice the vents open carefully and using a small pair of scissors i carefully cut the capacitor to the bung and then cut around the bung a bit and then around the top of the capacitor in order to make an opening to take the internals out intact. then i make sure the leads are straight and pull the internals away from the bung so that the internals come out with the leads still attached. then the capacitor can be unrolled and examined.

i dont know if it will tell anything but it is worth a try.

Yes, the bung seems thick, slightly protruding outwards when seen on eye level.

                                    The fonts look identical.

The unrolling seems complicated without a proper clamp. I will take some time to do it...

i have some fc 8mm from digikey i can inspect.
                                      has anyone contacted panasonic?
i bet any major mfr. has their share of counterfieters out there.
if you buy your parts from a reputable dist. your chances of getting fakes are slim.

Just an update. I defied my own words, went down to the dirty job. The FC in the earlier photos was cut open, it's moist and greyish. Update on the "FJ" is coming in soon...
