Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
I have a question. There are always very low capacitance (2.2 to 10uf), medium volted (25-50v) caps on PSUs. Some are found beside transformers, some near coils, etc. Should these caps remain during recapping, as some are hard to reach?

Re: Which motherboards have GOOD capacitors?
It is best if you can visually check the caps before purchase. Generally over here, Asus, Gigabyte are more consistent in using Japanese caps. MSI is a mixed bag of both Japanese and Taiwanese stuff.

Re: Do I Have Bad Caps?
I have one running in my office with dual P3-T 1.26GHz. So far no visible failing signs, but was quite well cooled for past 4 years.
It's a pain to recap that board, with well over 30 caps....

Re: HP 533 w/Trigem
Have never seen such gross looking caps. TMS gets my vote for dubious honour in bad caps list.

Re: Netgear routers are also affected
My Netgear FS605 switch has UCC (KMG) caps. Quite a pleasant surprise for me.

Re: 8RDA recap problems
The Rubycon MBZs are rare gems in the singapore consumer market. Still finding out where these good stuff are hidden...
WebCaster, maybe you can post the cap value of the Teapo and I'll try to help....

I have this really heavy PSU from Fortron, and one of its electroytic cap - Fuhjyyu 2200uf10v is bloating.
There are other Fuhjyyu caps, namely 4700uf10v (2 pcs) and a few Teapos. None are bloating, but I'm looking at replacing all Fuhjyyu caps too.
How do I discharge the PSU easily? It was disconnected from the mains for about 3 weeks already, but I'm unsure whether there are still electric charges present.

Re: PS2 port failure
The FDD is working. Can't tell for the COM and LPT because Windows XP Setup couldn't proceed beyond hardware detection.
Frankly I'm kind of confused at your advice (not engineering trained), but my brother has a multimeter and I'm very eager to pick up some basic skills. Will get back with a pic of the area close to the PS2 ports, hope you can help identify any components that can be tested....

Re: PS2 port failure
Will do a check later. The kb/mouse combo worked fine with 3 other mobos (MS-6337LE5, Gigabyte 6OXT and AB-BH6).
What's worse, I had 5 of these Gigabyte (OMM7E) boards and all had the keyboard problem....

Re: PS2 port failure
I used a USB to PS2 adapter as I don't have a USB keyboard. This works fine with the CUSL2-C from Windows XP setup, but not with the Gigabyte. The keyboard and mouse stopped responding after some point in "Detecting devices". After more and more tinkering, I can hear long and very short continuous beeps after cold/warm reboots (just like when you hold on one of the keys). The Gigabyte looks rather hosed as it's impossible to even install Windows....

PS2 port failure
Recently, I'm receiving a lot of boards with PS2 port problems. This include initial detection of a PS2 keyboard (after cautionary recap), but within an hour the port became non-functional or intermittent. Other cases are simply dead ports after power up.
The bulk came from Asus CUSL2-C, and a few Gigabyte GA-6OMM7Es as well. The Asus had OSTs 1000uf6.3v that I replaced with Rubycon YXGs, and Gigabyte had a mix of GSCs and CHOYOs which I replaced with Panasonic FCs.
Anyone can guide on any meter/components to detect/repair the fault?Last edited by BluBlur; 08-27-2005, 09:49 PM.

Re: Yellow caps with F logo and K vents
Looked at some Asus (server) boards, some have this same yellow caps on it.
And many old boards have this same one buldging.. not a good sign.

Re: P4C800-E Deluxe
It doesn't make sense for a i875P board to be capped with OSTs, especially for an Asus board.
I spent some time in my local tech stores searching out whether P4P800-SE and P4P800-E Deluxe use better caps, and the SE had full of OSTs. I ended up buying the P4P800-E Deluxe despite being more expensive, because it was capped with Chemicons (KZG) and Panasonic (FC). I expected the same standard with P4C800-E Deluxe, but it appeared not...
Oddly enough, most people overclocked their Pentium-Ms higher with the SE. I'm getting mediocre...

Re: Has anyone seen these caps before?
Nope, it's working really fine. Just seen some Teapos in a sea of Rubycons and Nichicons and they looked out of place.
Btw, the Nichicon is a HN(M). Hope it won't fail anytime soon....

Re: MSI 6330 (K7T Pro)
I have this particular board too. The bigger 4700uf6.3v KZEs and 3900uf10v Teapos look fine, while the 2700uf6.3v and 1000uf6.3v Chhsi crap are bloated. With help from the local distro, the board is cycling through prime95 smoothly now.

Yup, Chhsi and GSC are the top killer failures. I have a bowl almost full of them....

Me too. I even have these in my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo. The board's in warranty, thus I'm not recapping them anytime soon....

Re: Rare Teapos on Abit ST6
Just an update. I defied my own words, went down to the dirty job. The FC in the earlier photos was cut open, it's moist and greyish. Update on the "FJ" is coming in soon...
