Yesterday a next door neighbour asked me if I can reinstall the OS on a used PC he received.
I answered "Yes... no problem... but... wait a minute and let me look inside....
.... oh my God... what a mess"
Well another P4PB400 with c(r)ap all around
.
I hope this time I can win my battle because last year I lost time and trashed the MOBO .
Before I proceed I have some doubts:
1) the caps have different values respect to the board I saw last year and I can't find the exact value and size.
Is it OK to use Panasonic FM 1200uF 16V (dia. 10mm) instead of 1500uF 6.3V GSC?
If I have to order 1500uF from RS Italy, I have to wait till 15 June when Nichicon HE will be available. From what I see in datasheet Panasonic 1200 is better than Nichicon 1500.
I know that usually it is better to increase size... but I don't want to wait so long.
2) Is it OK to use Panasonic FK 3300uF 6.3V instead of CSG on the VRM? I know they are lower grade respect FM but I need them with dia. 10mm and FM is 12.5mm.
The CPU on this MOBO is P4 2.8GHz Northwood, the PSU is a Deer full of Canicon and Asiacon they look OK but I will replace them with Panny FM-FC-FK, depends on their value/size and RS Italy.
I was completely astonished when I saw this PC starting and running even if all the VRM caps are blown.
