Hello i'm new here, I was wondering if a bad cap could cause the motherboad not to post. Its sometimes posts and other times it acts like a dead board. i can remove the ram sticks and i get beeps. I located a bulged cap next to my northbridge. The cap is a 6.3v 1000uf OST. My question is would it be hard to solder in a new cap?

Re: Bad cap on nforce3-a
You have to replace all of those (especially OST) caps. Replacing just one will place all the filtering load on it and cause it to fail also.
What brand and series did you use to replace it?
Also, check the power supply for more of the same problems. Improper power will also cause a no post or "flakey" problems.
See this for a list of bad cap manufacturers:

Re: Bad cap on nforce3-a
Thanks for the reply. I got the motherboard from my brother after it it started freezing on start up. I replaced the cap OST 6.3v 1000uf also same height and width that i took out of a old motherboard that i don't use anymore. It's been up and running strong for the past 2 days strait. I looked at the rest of the caps on the motherboard and there no sign of leaking or bulging so is it safe to assume it might be ok now?Last edited by superdoyle; 03-18-2009, 12:56 AM.Comment

Re: Bad cap on nforce3-a
Again -
What brand and series did you replace it with? If you replaced it with a known bad series, you'll have problems again shortly.
Again-
You have to replace all of those (especially OST) caps. OST's will FAIL without bulging or leaking. The one you replaced MAY be shoring up the others for the time being. It won't last.
If you have ANY of the brand/series on that board that are listed in the link in my last post, you have more work to do. Check all of the caps and refer to the list.
Did you check the Power supply (open it and LOOK)?veritas odium paritComment

Re: Bad cap on nforce3-a
Thank you for the quick reply.
Looks like more work then i want to do, My whole board is OST with the exception of 3 by my heatsink that is black and gold don't know what brand they are without pulling the board out of the case. Also everything is new in the case except the motherboard.
Yes i did replace with a known bad seriesi should smack myself for that.
About the power supply i really don't want to open it cause it would void the warranty as its only under a week old.Comment

by AimbitHi All,
I bought some used Xbox one controllers "as is/untested" and they both have the same issue. The joysticks go wild for no reason while plugged in.
https://youtube.com/shorts/YTYtjUPkBX0?feature=share
I removed both joysticks assuming it was an issue with the sticks, but the video posted here is the activity of the sticks with no sticks installed! My only guess is one of the tiny IC's that reads the inputs is broken. There are two small ones near either joystick, and then one larger one. I found a replacement on Aliexpress for the larger one... -
by sam_sam_samThis is the most interesting thing that I have ever seen on this series and I watch it when it on and I have seen a lot of episodes in the past
I want one but wow how dangerous this is one thing that would make it more safe would be a gyroscope controller then it would make it a lot safer to operate
Here is the website link to it

by jesteraceHi everyone I have this TV which was dead one day when I tried to turn it on. I've had the cover off and there was just a pulsating/electrical clicking/ticking noise from the PSU. I disconnected the mainboard as sometimes this works to just fire it up with backlights on? That didn't help. Same noise. Then I disconnected the backlight cable from the PSU and the TV came alive. It appeared to respond to the remote and i'm pretty sure it's fully operational when there is no backlight connected.
However, I am in a dilemma.
I tested the backlight outputs with the lights disconnected... -
by Lamer13The PSUs (several good PSUs tried) act as the 12v CPU Line is shorted - PSUs start and stop right away and second try through pwbtn is impossible unless psu off-on first. When CPU line not plugged PSUs run normally. This happens only when cpu line plugged. The mosfets are not shorted. Tested every single one of them between drain and source - high side mosfets - 1.3megaohm, low side - 100ohms. Between 12v and ground on the cpu connector - normal capacitor rise from ohms to about 1megaohm. All measurements are without a cpu (btw I tried with 2 different cpus - same result).
So I suspect...11-03-2023, 06:52 AM -
by rustinjustMy tv will work for a while and change channels with the remote as it should but then it will stick on one channel only and work ok but it won't change channels. I have tried unplugging it for hours and whilst unplugged pressing the power button on the tv to reset it.
The volume button on the remote still works but it just won't change channels once it decides to stick on one channel
It has built in basic freeview tv here in the uk, I've tried doing an automatic search to reset the tv but nothing works.
I have to turn the tv off and then on again with... - Loading...
