Re: Bad Caps Or Stability Problem

Do you have good voltages in the BIOS health monitor?

Those testers sometimes show a bad PSU, but they're too simple to prove if one is good. It could be operating out of spec without failing the tester. The health monitor doesn't prove it either, but it's something else to check.
I can understand not wanting to buy stuff randomly, but if you have other good PSUs around it would be worth trying a swap.

Load is apparently a factor since it's passing memtest but failing under a GUI.

The problem with those little guys is that they are not the most accurate, and they don't tell you how bad or good your power supply is, just if its bad or good.

GOOD OR BAD? i have finally removed the cover from the 350Watt PSU (Tsunami KYP-350ATXN P4) to check the caps. there is one cap that i cannot be too sure about. it has a very slight bulge and had a small amount of brown crap on the top. it is possible that the crap on the top could have been dust as it virtually fell off. the make of the offending cap is JEE. There are other makes that i can see in the unit which are UNITE and HE?? There is also some that have no names but are black and marked LOW ESR IM0410. I have enclosed a picture of the offending cap which is the largest one in the picture

BAD. Showing classic symptoms of a faulty capacitor. Chance are if one has failed all the caps will want changing... or, as is probably easier and cheaper - get a new PSU.

Re: Bad Caps Or Stability Problem

JEE/Rulycon, Unite and Low.ESR are all bad caps that must be replaced regardless of whether they're bulging or leaking.

no wonder the tsunami cases are only around £25 inc PSU. LMFAO

They don't even tell you bad or good.

They CAN'T tell you it's good in real conditions.
                  - They don't put enough load on it to know what voltages will be in a system.

They also can't tell you if it's bad in some cases.
                  - DC voltages could be dead-on but ripple 10x what it's allowed to be and those things wouldn't know.

They only tell you DC voltage is good -> with no load.

Yup, Time to break out the soldering iron or seek a new PSU.
