    OK to replace 820uF with 2200uF?

    We have a Dell Precision 360 with four 820uF 6.3V bad capacitors.

    We gave bag of 2200uF 10V caps which I have been using to replace bad caps on Dell GX270's very successfully.

    Am I going to strain some components on start up if I use a 2200uF instead of a 820uF?

      An increase from 3280uF to 8800uF could be inadvisable
      Depends on the design
      Post a pic of the thing, and also what where the exact name of the old and new caps?

          The faulty capacitors are Nichicon 820uF 6.3V HN(M) capacitors

          The ones I am thinking about installing are: Suntan 220uF 10V with CD286 +105DegC markings.

          I am not worried about the quality of the replacement caps just whether putting such huge capacitors in place of the broken ones causes too much inrush current or something when the boards is powered up.

              820->2200 is a huge jump and probably a bad idea.
              No one here can say for CERTAIN if you will or won't run into problems.

              2:
              Those Suntan are a cheap brand and probably not low ESR.
              They might work for a short time (maybe) but they won't last very long.

                  Thanks for the warning about the Suntan brand. Jaycar (Australian based) used to sell Samxon low esr and now the same catalog number gets you Suntan. They are definitely Low ESR and I have used a heap of them to fix Dell GX270 mother boards but most have been in service less than a year (none have failed yet). Hopefully our company is going to replace the PC's before they all start to fail.

                  I think I will put the Suntan 2200uF in place of the 820uF an see what happens.
