    Asus A8V fails to boot

My mobo a8v had some display issues, displaying some dots which I attributed for a bad driver or failing video card, but I continued to use it until it does not boot anymore. Only then I replaced the psu Antec, which still works, with a brand new one make Young Year & replaced the video card with another good AGP card as well as a PCI one but still no boot. Also replaced the memory card with other Kingston which I know is good but still no boot.

On power on the cpu fan & the power led works but there is no beep & no display on the vdu, even after trying several times.

The mobo has 6 * KZG 1500uf 6.3v caps but seems good, by looking at it as I did not remove it to test & I don't have an ESR meter either, although they are cathegorised to be bad caps & also 4 Nichicon 1000 uf 16v.

Will the board be ok if I replace only the 6 KZG only? or is there any other issues!

Also can I replace the KZG with Rubycon MBZ 2200uf 6.3v from an old abit ku8 mobo as in my island not sure I can get low ESR caps. The best that I seen are LXZ & some Rubycon YXG of 1000uf 16v.

Re: Asus A8V fails to boot

I replaced the 6 KZG with the Rubies & still no boot with processor & one ddr ram in slor A. However when I moved the dimm to sockets b i.e. third one, it is now ok. Only the 2 dimm slots 3rd & 4th are ok.

What could be wrong as initially all dimm sockets were filled with 2* 1gb + 2 * 512 mb. I guess that the problem was not bad caps!

Re: Asus A8V fails to boot

Many DDR boards have problems with 4 sticks of RAM installed.
Reference design was 'under built' and the RAM VRs have trouble keeping RAM voltage in spec.
Bad caps (aging caps) will make one that's just barely okay go bad after a while.

You may also have a bad VR or cap that only affects power to the first two slots.

ASUS ROG Ally X - (Handheld Gaming PC)
          Model No: RC72LA
          Serial No: SBNVKD001014459

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.

I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...

          Asus GL731GT Boot loop
          by trbovan
          Laptop is a GL731GT with the I7-9750h and GTX1650.

          Full model number is gl731gt-rb71-cb
Serial: (placeholder for when I get home)
          Board model: G531GT REV. 1.5

Issue: Laptop was password protected with admin password. I extracted the Bios with the CH341A and ASprogrammer. I Initially saved the backup. I then scoured the internet for a rom to flash to the chip. I found a file and flashed it. I then read it back to verify and mistakenly over wrote my backup of the original Bios.

I assembled and tested anyway. The bios worked, I was able...

Asus laptop won't boot (no power) - possible bad caps?
          by jrodefeld
I would like to see if anyone could help me salvage a very expensive laptop that is no longer working.

          The model:
          Asus Zenbook Pro Duo UX582L

I have used this laptop lightly since I purchased it new in 2022. I have always taken precautions to take care of it the best I could, and have never done anything that would risk causing damage to it or shorten it's life.

However, around six months ago, the laptop stopped working on battery power. It continued to work fine when plugged in, but as soon as power was disconnected,...
