VP6 CPU Speed Problem - CPU is unworkable or has changed?

I've had my VP6 for over 7 years now and Its been an outstanding board and the only problem I've had with it is the CPU speed seems to re-set itself ocassionally and I have to go into the bios-> save changes and reboot a few times for it to boot with the correct speed.

I have 2 x P3 1GHz CPU's running in it and it re-sets itself to 500mhz sometimes and in addition to this the date and time in the bios also gets re-set to 2001 too.

"CPU is unworkable or has changed"

I've flashed the board to the latest BIOS which is YT i beleive 24/07/2001?

I have done a bit of research and think it could be the cmos battery?

I've anyone has experienced this problem or knows how to fix it that would be much aprpeciated as I woudl love to get my vp6 working 100% so I can use it for a Media centre PC!

    Thanks

    Power supply and/or board caps.

I was getting the same issue when I purchased a new power supply a couple of years ago?

Do you have any more info on the board caps? i'm not getting any stability issues at all when its running its just ocassionally re-setting the cpu speed info and date/time.

I guess changing the battery wont do any harm

replace cmos battery and recap it.
it will then continue to serve you well.
any vp6 that still posts is worth fixing.

Yup. Recap. FWIW, I still have a VP6 in operation as a backup server.
