    DFI PRO875 Bad Caps?

    Ok the symptoms are :

*Delayed Post, sometimes not at all. When I press the power button, everything turns on but it takes a further 5 -15 minutes for it to beep and then display something.

*CMOS will not save any info, I have got 2 bios chips that have the same issue so its not the chip. I have also changed the CMOS battery and CMOS is not set to CLR.

*Requires 'pre-heating' my Pentium4 Prescott to around 75 degrees C before it has any chance of posting properly. I do this by unplugging the CPU fan for about 2-3 minutes, plugging it back in, resetting PC and voila, post. After it has posted it Can reset it and it will start right back up. But if I drain the caps or leave it off for a while the systems starts from symptom 1 again.

*Caps in question are kzg caps which apparently are good? 3 or 4 of the 2200uF 6.3 volt caps right next to the CPU socket have a white substance forming on the tops of them. The prescott's run hot so I'm wondering if constant 60-70 degree exhaust air over the caps is causing this premature failure?

Does this sound like a capacitor problem? TIA guys.

It sure sounds like a capacitor problem. The hot prescott blowing hot air over the caps isnt a good thing and those KZG caps don't like too much heat either.... and if there's a white subtance forming of top of them, i would check if it's electrolyte. I've been though some instance where I thought dust was leaked electrolyte.

Well, its white and im having trouble scraping it off the cap. Its only forming on some of them so I can only assume its not dust.

It could be white silicone or some type of component adhesive they use it at the factory to secure the caps before wave soldering.

Post some pics and we'll let you know what it is.

KZG series capacitors are known to have problems (often with no visible indication) and it's more common if there is a lot of heat,,, Like caps right next to the CPU socket.
