Perc 5i raid card - SMT capacitor torn off

So... I bought this poweredge 840 server used off ebay. In shipping, the raid card was not secured and it must have banged around.

Found the card loose with this capacitor that popped off (surface mount).

I've never done smt repair before but since one of the pads is torn off; I was wondering if it is possible to scrape off some of the green surface and solder it back on?

If so, where would I scrape and solder.

I've included pictures for your kind review and opinions.

The card is not expensive. It seems to work even without the capacitor which is pretty surprising to me. I don't even know if I need to get it back on but I thought I would use this as a test repair.

Don't know if I would trust it even if repaired.

If anyone in Toronto wants the card; you are welcome to take it off me for free to try your hand at the repair.

    THanks guys.

PS - what I don't understand is that the capacitor seems to sit on a whole copper plated area and I don't see any specific traces going through it.

    Is that how smt works?

The negative of the capacitor is connected to resistor R960, there is also a via hole in that path. Solder it in place then make a path up to the resistor but you need to also make sure you get a connection through the via hole...

Thank you for the quick reply.

Now that you point it out to me, I can see the torn trace to the R960 resister.

      Many thanks for the help.

Will update if I get it repaired but that looks to be beyond my level of skill and beyond my level of equipment.

Yeah it doesn't surprise me the card still works without the ceramic capacitor. Ceramics have low uF in contrast to electrolytics.
If the via has been completely torn out, it might not be possible to get the capacitor back on properly.

Just buy a nice adaptec SAS card and be done with it. The OEMed LSI cards are always temperamental (I've had an LSI card randomly pop spindles on my 15K SAS, and it was intermittent, the card had no defects; another LSI card just has a bloody slow text BIOS. Don't get me started on LSI's "webbios").

Solder the one end on the board and solder a thin wire to the other end and the resistor. If you have used a soldering iron before I think you could do this. Just be quick, once you see the solder melt, pull the iron off.

            RTX 3080 FE Identifying capacitor
            by Prolog
Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
(yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

I have found the board schematic (attached), but there does not seem to be a boardview available. I have never...

            Graphics Card mounting frame
            by Kemer
Hello, I removed the graphics card from my laptop and I want to heat it in the oven. What I want to ask is, is it okay to heat the card without removing the metal mounting frame on it?

As you can see in the photo, there is a plastic (black) gasket between the metal frame and the card. It sticks the frame tightly to the card.

I previously removed the metal frame while heating it, but it is quite difficult to separate it from the surface it is attached to. If there is no problem, I do not want to remove it.

What worries me right now is the possibility that...

EVGA Nu Audio Sound Card - Not Working
            by FZG
I have an EVGA Nu Audio sound card that is not working properly and I need some help diagnosing the fault (preferably by someone who owns this card and is willing to take some measurements).

The card sort of powers up (LED lights are coming on and the relais is clicking, some voltages are present) but it is not detected in Windows. I tried installing in two different PCs and tried several driver versions but the card was never detected anyway. So I thought this is probably not a driver / software-issue and then disassembled the card to take some measurements.

            I found...

Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti - card not initialising
            by benwaterson
            Hi there.

Have searched various forums but haven't come across the exact issue I am having.

Bought the 1080ti with a fault (randomly shutting down, black screen , fans full speed etc). Previous owner had replaced thermal pads but many were too thick on inspection.

I tested the card in windows, all loaded up ok. Put some load on the card and it crashed. GPU was reporting 92 degrees C at the time.

Switched the stock cooler out for an AIO water cooler from my 1080 FE, booted the card back up - temps were much better and allowed some load to be applied...
