    geforce mx4000 128mb strange fets

i have that video card but before trying it on my motherboard i have checked its two mosfets and the ohmeter reads a short between drain and source on both of them. Both mosfets look good. When testing drain to gate it reads open circuit the same goes for gate to source open circuit ( infinite resistance) but the short appears when reading drain to source.Any ideas?

Those mosfets are probably connected in parallel with each other. If so, they'll both show the same readings in circuit.

How short is it? If it's on the order of 10's of ohms then that's not unusual in-circuit and it might be fine. But if it's < 1 ohm then something must be shorted. I might try it on a board/PSU I didn't care much about just to be sure before I start working on it. A good quality PSU should shut off if it detects an overload, but it's still not really good for it.

I'd check with a multimeter to find which capacitors are in parallel with those mosfets, and remove them. Then see if the mosfets still show a short. If so, then lift the mosfets' legs off the board and figure out which one is bad. One of them will probably still test good but it might have been partially damaged, so if you want the ideal repair it's probably best to replace both of them.

I've had a few shorted mosfets and not yet seen one that didn't look good, so I wouldn't judge them by appearance.

Harman Kardon sub TS11 (ds15 amplifer) blows fuse and mosfets
      by BlackScreen_22
Hi, I'll start by saying that I'm not an expert and I've reached a point where I don't know what to try/do anymore...
Starting from the beginning: I opened this subwoofer for the first time with a very strong smell of burnt electrical components, I realize that on the amplifier board there is a hole between V+ OUT and GND about the size of a finger, the damaged components were the shorted mosfets, two damaged zener diodes and two capacitors. I bought everything, I fixed the hole by cutting the pcb and putting a piece of a perforated board.
I had no problems connecting mosfets and capacitors,...

Asus G634j Rog Strix SCAR Power rail shorted nothing hot on thermal camera.
      by abajor
I haven't been able to find a schematic or board view for one of these out in the wild. I had one come in with a no charge/no boot issue.

It Uses two pairs of Source to Source Mosfets after the power jack to prevent back flow from battery or PSU after the power jack.

The drain on the board feed side of the Mosfets measures a near dead short to ground. I attempted a voltage injection there it draws about 1.4A at 1V absolutely nothing heats up on the thermal camera.
It draws 1.86A injecting directly to ground.

Is this just the way it is when these ultra...

Lenovo Ideapad 5 14ITL05 not powering on
      by tantr13
      Hi everyone,
This is my first post so I'm hoping to get some help on this awesome forum. As a preface, I'm an amateur at electronics, especially troubleshooting complicated devices like laptops. However, I'm trying to develop a skill for it so I can learn how these devices work and how to repair them without continuing the wasteful tradition of throwing them away and buying new. 🤮

I've had a Lenovo Ideapad 5 14ITL05 for a few years now, with motherboard LA-K321P. I would never leave it plugged in unless I was using it, and always turned it off after I was done, but last week...

Gainward Phantom GTX 980 - mosfets w/ integrated driver NCP5369
      by flerre
      Hi!

Managed to get a Gainward Phantom GTX 980 in an auction for a bin with components.
No video out so I started fault finding and found a blown fuse for 3 mosfets. Started checking for shorts and found what I think is a short through all of those 3 mosfets; 0.1 ohms between "VIN" input and "VSWH" output. All mosfets in this gpu are the same ones (NCP5369) with integrated drivers and when I tried measuring the other ones through these ports they were somewhere in the kilo-ohms range.

So, could I safely assume all of these 3 mosfets are...

Asus Tuf gaming fx506l no power, mosfet does not open
      by Thomas Smith
Hello everyone, I have an ASUS FX506LI laptop that does not turn on, and I need help diagnosing the issue. Here is what I have checked so far:
      Initial Symptoms:
      • The laptop has no power at all (no LEDs, no fan spin).
      • No 3.3V or 5V present on the board.
      • The power button (NBSWON#) reacts but only changes from 0V to 0.5-0.11V.
      Power Rail Checks:
      1. Charger input (FETs PKCH2BB)
        • Drain: 20V, Source: 0V, Gate: 0V (FETs not switching).
      2. BQ24780S Charger IC:
        • VCC and ACDET are present.
        • ACN / ACP, ACDRV, BATDRV, LODRV, HIDRV, ACOK, SRN, SRP – all 0V.
        • Shunt resistor has 10Ω to ground.
