Re: VRM Mosfet replacement with non originals
Yes i already know that . I learned the hard way some time ago when replaced one shorted NEC 2sk3296 (instead of replacing the 3 present on the pcchips 810 i only replaced the shorted one) with an irfz44.It worked, got video and all but only for a couple of seconds until the irfz44 started to melt and went up in smoke.I guess that happened because of the imbalance you mentioned.I wasnt able to solder the irfz44 transistor body to the board because of not having any heat gun, so that made things worst because it could not dissipate...

VRM Mosfet replacement with non originals
Hi guys
I have some NEC 2sk3296 blown but i can't get them at any stores over here. These are some old socket 370 and some 462.Can i replace them with some IRFZ44 will it work?
Thanks you

Re: shorted celeron cpu?
i already check that, both southbridge and northbridge are fine and
yes i live in Buenos Aires it takes me 30 min to get to RS COMPONENTS LTD en la Argentina but unfortunately they do not carry any 1500uf x 16v low esr caps
Many thanks anyway...

Re: shorted celeron cpu?
I can get several capacitances in low esr form but the problem is none of them is higher than 10v.I can get low esr 1500uf x 10v , low esr 2200uf x 10v so i thought about putting six 3300uf x 6.3 in series, in place of the three original 1500uf x 16v ....

Re: shorted celeron cpu?
i bought a celeron 1.7 yesterday and it gives me 30.7 ohm.
Apparently the celeron D 2.5 Ghz (the 4.00 ohm one) suffered extreme overheating and as a result some internal parts of the chip got shorted.I didnt mention that when a took off the case cover the fan didnt spin at all because of dirt that caused extreme overheating on the celeron D so i dissassembled the heatsink/fan unit and cleaned it. Anyway the motherboard still gives no video signal.I have replaced the four 3300uf with new ones, but still cant get the 1500uf x 16v at the electronics...Last edited by JorgeHernan; 12-22-2009, 07:23 AM.

Re: shorted celeron cpu?
I4004
beforei i carried the resistance test both with and with the cpu removed from the mobo (of course everything UNPLUGGED) i did voltage measurements but this time with the mobo-cpu ON (a mean plugged to power supply). The following results were obtained
mosfets near the cpu socket 1.30 Volt
Tested the remaining voltages(agp slot, chipset) and they are working fine
Its a celeron D and according to the cpu-world site celerons D works with 1.25 to 1.35 volt so this motherboard cpu power supply(mosfets,...Last edited by JorgeHernan; 12-20-2009, 05:58 PM.

Re: shorted celeron cpu?
i suposse the celeron is shorted 4.00 ohms looks like a shorted cpu to me

Re: shorted celeron cpu?
i did it with the mobo unplugged!!I mean just the mobo and the celeron without any other part(without power supply, without anything).Just the mobo and cpu.Otherwhise i would have caused a short circuit.
I repeat this measurement was done on the mobo and cpu unplugged!! using the ohmeter.Last edited by JorgeHernan; 12-20-2009, 02:36 PM.

shorted celeron cpu?
Hi guys
I have a non-working combo ECS socket 478 motherboard with a celeron 2.1 Ghz .When i test the resistance (with the celeron still in the socket) of those four 3300uf x 6.3V capacitors near the cpu socket (the resistance between positive and negative leads of these 3300 uf caps) i get 4.00 Ohms. But when i remove the celeron from the socket i get 92.1 Ohms.Does this mean i have a shorted celeron?
Thank you
Jorge

hidden short circuit
Hello guys
I have a pcchips 789 with a soldered via smauel c3.The only mosfet in the vrm blew so i desoldered that mosfet and replaced with a irfz44.The psu blew too. When i turned the motherboard on the irfz44 blew too so desoldered the surrounding schottky diode and capacitors and still get a shortcircuit across the capacitor pads.I can not tell where the short circuit is coming from.Thank you

Re: bad flash corrupted bios
That's what i was thinking about but didn't know how to do it.Excellent...

Re: bad flash corrupted bios
Ok.I just bought an used Weller hot air gun yesterday. Now it's time to buy the right nozzle.Once i get the plcc chip off the board i will solder a PLCC socket.I'll keep you posted.Thanks...

Re: bad flash corrupted bios
[QUOTE=starfury1]probably the worse nightmare to have when flashing.
I don't know if there is anyway to actually Flash one while its still on an MB.
if you can get the same type of chip with the BIOS programmed already you may be able to just cut the legs and remove the chip then remove legs of the pads ...more like micro surgery.
(that would depend on the type of chip package thought)
Another possibility is (depending you) maybe able to remove it and fit a socket (think its PLCC)
I have...

Intel d865 PERL Power button doesn't work
Hi
this is an unknown bord to me so i tested it without cpu and without memory (just in case the VRM IS BAD) i put a post code card in PCI slot but when i take my screwdriver and use it to bridge the front panel POWER ON pins together nothing happens. The mobo reacts only when i short power good to ground pins on the atx connector once i get this response from the mobo the post card inserted in the pci slot reacts too and has all of its voltage raid leds on (+12 -12 +5 -5 +3.3 ).Does this mean it is safe to put a cpu and memory?or are there any other way of testing cpu vrm mosfet's if so...

bad flash corrupted bios
Flash went bad and killed the mobo. The boot block is corrupted too.The big problem is this is a soldered plcc eeprom.I do not have any smd hot air stations. Is there any way of reflashing this eeprom without unsoldering it.Thanks in advance

Re: Mosfet removal
Yes.I was searching for mosfet removal on google and found some info .Someone said he used hot air gun. that would be interesting. The problem is what kind of what temperaure etc?...

Re: Mix Voltage capacitor value
Old/original caps are LUXON.The new ones are JACKON (i think they are not the best)but they are the only option i have....

Mix Voltage capacitor value
I have to recap a sis730 462 motherboard it has 10 2200uf x 6.3 volt from origin. The problem is that i have 5 new 2200 x 6.3volt caps and 5 new 2200 x 10volt.Can i recap using these despite their difference in voltage value.It is safe?Thanks in advance
