How to repair R300 Core (radeon 9500/9700)

This might seem a bit ambitious for a first post, but here goes...

I was hoping someone here had some experience repairing things such as this. The GPU is in good working order it seems. However, without this cap functionality is limited (obviously). So, I have sent in a ticket to ATI hoping they could provide me with info about what the part is exactly so I can purchase it.. however I am not too sure they will assist me in this matter. Also, as it is so small and an SMD, I am not sure how I would get it in there guessing that normal soldering won't work.. not sure though, I am willing to try anything. I have included a link to a pic that shows the exact cap that is missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In case you are wondering, I think I might have knocked it off while i was scraping off the crappy thermal compound off the GPU in order to put in a new hsf as it seemed to be experiencing some heat-related artifacting.

    thanks

without the card in hand its hard to tell what they are.
i know they are vcore supply bypass caps.
they will be low voltage low esr mlcc.
i would look at a scrap late model mobo and rob one of the same size that shows very low esr out of circut.
they are not likely to be a critical value.
hell it may work fine without it.

Probably easier to pick one off a dead/older memory DIMM, which will have a bunch of small bypass caps near each DRAM chip.

So you all don't think that this cap would affect the card that much? I wodner what happened then. I can't get the card to work in AGP mode at all, according to smartgart. It can't do agp read or write.

All those resistors do is change settings, i.e. remove one you remove a feature...

It's how they make different models... If you add another resistor at one place there it will become the professional CAD/CAM version of the card... Lotsa info on the net about this...

nope those are vcore bypass caps.

Sorry I can't be bothered to find a R300 card but here is a R420 where the method was changed to the same AMD uses on their processor to select which multiplier it will run at and other misc settings; laser cutting of traces... The older R300 core uses resistors for that instead
