yes its the polyfuse for the firewire.
i have seen several burned up.
clean up the board and get a replacement from a scrap mobo.
imho it was caused by someone plugging someting in that was shorted.

just remove it for a test.clean the board up good so it doesnt arc on any carbon tracks that may have formed.
it will work ok without it.no firewire though.

Sorry for the long delay. Unfortunately, my board doesn't have that particular component on it, so I can't give you the numbers. I originally purchased it from a member on the overclockers.com forum. After I couldn't get it to post properly, I put it in the junk board pile. Some months later, I purchased a PCI2 diagnostic post card, available from www.uxd.com, hoping that it would help me diagnose the problem. It didn't and I still have a dud. I did remove the 3300 caps from it, but then replaced them. If anyone wants a crack on it, I will charge the cost of shipping and that's it. Let me know.

And yes, they are and were great boards.

Yeah nice except the 'fansink' was junk! replaced mine with a vantec IceberQ unit never looked back... miss it sometimes, but this 939 Neo2 is just as nice IMHO

I'll second that - I have the same MSI S-939 board, and it's near perfect - especially the AGP 8x slot, which allows me reuse my old GeForcen. Also has support for the rapidly vanishing dual-core Opteron-1xx, which are probably the best value around. I'll admit that I'm tempted by the low-end Conroes, though.
