Epox 8RDA3+ no POST, going for recap

    Hi all,
I have an Epox 8RDA3+, which doesn't post. Fans power up and the LED indicator displays "FF" and that's all. Every other piece of hardware I use with it is tested and working. Have tried many hardware combination and CMOS erasing methods with no positive results. Now I'm thinking about recapping it.

I have studied thoroughly this forum the last 2 days and I am now pretty sure that the caps should be the problem. There are 3 1500uF @ 16 Volts KZGs and every other cap on the board is TEAPO. Also there are no visible signs on them, no bulging, leaking or swelling, but have read here that it's typical for TEAPOs to fail without any visible signs.
So I'm making a list of what caps I'll need and go shopping through local stores this weekend.
If you have any ideas and/or suggestions I'll greatly appreciate them. Thanks.

I doubt that recap will fix it. Maybe the BIOS is corrupted. Also check for PCB damage around CPU socket.

It had some trouble to POST before, but after some attempts and unplugging and plugging back the power cord of the PSU fixed it until now. That's why I don't think it's the BIOS. Maybe I'll try to reflash it on another board, if I find one with similar EEPROM, until I find the needed capacitors. Also couldn't find any sign of physical damage on the board, around the socket and the connectors inside it. Wish me luck. And thanks for the reply.

Did some research and found that the bios chip on the Epox is compatible with the chips my other board (Asus A7V880) has and may try to "Hot-Swap" flash it if the recap doesn't work. But I'm still pretty sure the problem is not the BIOS.
Anyone with a 8RDA3+ had a similar experience?

If you got it to boot up once, than i would say recapping can fix it.

I am agree with your point. I think it is the caps problem. I have repaired the same mothbaord 8RDA3+ (PCB Made in China) last 2 weeks in my side.

In my case, the baord is problem is SMART I/O fail, got a lot heat there, on board debug "FF".

My suggestion, check the northern, southern birdge chipsets and SMART I/O, heat is normal or not.

I bought (4) EpoX 8K7A used from an eBay seller. All four do the same thing. They hang at FF.

All have TEAPO caps, many showing very obvious signs of failure. Leaking and swelling.

                ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap

Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

I've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.

This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire....

Epox EP 85 MVP3C-M - 3.54v Vcore regardless of jumpers
                by kotel studios
                Hi,

Recently I got an Epox EP-85 MVP3C-M board from scrap. After fixing the broken caps I powered it on without CPU and the jumpers set to 60Mhz FSB and 2x multiplier.
Sadly, Vcc3 was stuck at 3.54v regardless of jumpers. Vcc2 (Vi/o I think) was also the same voltage.
So, I've returned to the original configuration I got the board in - 100Mhz FSB and 4x multiplier. Voltages haven't changed at all.
                What I've tried so far:
replace the original N-MOSFETs with beefier 60V ones for testing
Resolder the resistors near the Vcore Jumper block
                Short Vcore...

                by Foetuss
                Hi all

Hope this is in the correct place.

I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

Pictures of the boards are attached.
What I will be replacing with what : (planned)

Got 4 LG L222WS 22" for free - psu recap
                by goodpsusearch
Got 4 CCFL 16/10 monitors for free.

The resolution is almost Full HD (1680x1050)

VGA Input only is a bummer though.

Uses cheap TN panel with terrible viewing angles.

Even though this is not 17" 5:4 screen, still has very low resell value here. Can be found for 15-20 euros.

All the 4 monitors were not working and needed psu recap. Used mix of mediocre / junk caps to recap them, then donated 3 of them to friends/relatives and kept 1 for myself. Also like to install extra caps on empty spaces to help them last longer.
