    Emachine T2245 Board or CPU?

    Hello to Everyone!

I am new here and I have a problem. Aren't we all have?

By the way it is a great board.

I found this site while researching and trying to figure out what is wrong with this computer.

You've all heard of it before. My story goes like this. I was surfing the internet. I went to get a pizza. I came back and thought my computer went to sleep mode. I tried to wake her up but to no avail. No video. The HDD light is lit up and the PSU fan is running. I tried to press and hold the switch button for about 120 sec and it doesn't shut off. I mean the HDD LED is still lit up. I unplug and replug the power cord from the PSU. The result is the same. Fan is spinning, HDD led is lit up but no post, no video. I have a brand new Suntech power supply for spare just in case. I thought this might be the case so I removed the existing PSU from the computer and installed this new PSU. The result is the same. PSU fan is running, the HDD led is litup and no POST. I opened up the case and noticed also that the CPU fan is running.
I stripped everything so that only the CPU is attached and the power cable to the board. I disconnected the HD, CDROM and Floppy cables and their power. I removed the memory. I removed and replace the CMOS battery and clear the CMOS. The result is the same. No POST, PSU fan and CPU fan is running.

I checked the caps and didn't notice any bulging or damage. I don't have a spare CPU or motherboard to test the CPU. It's got to be the CPU or Mobo. How can I test the Mobo or its components (caps) if its the culprit? If the mobo is found to be bad then CPU is most likely okay. If the Mobo is good then the CPU is fried. However, I am more leaning towards the Mobo as CPU rarely goes bad or so I heard.

Emachine is selling the Mobo for this for a whopping $159.95.

I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I am willing to get shocked a little but not electrecuted. I might as well use this as a learning experience.

Any help or suggestions as how I may start testing the Mobo?

The Mobo name is Imperial motherboard. I never heard of this before. A better name would have been Inferior motherboard.

Here's the rest of the specs.

    CPU: Intel® Celeron® Processor 2.20GHz (w/128KB L2 cache & 400MHz FSB)

Re: Emachine T2245 Board or CPU?

    Hello to all,
I am also new to this board and have enjoyed my visits.
I decided to post this here instead of opening a new thread because the board is the same, hope that is OK.
Anyway I have three of these pieces of junk in my shop now, all were built within a six month period according to the dates screened on the board.
The symptoms are different so let me describe them here:
The board will not power up but if the power supply is cycled on and off several times the PS fan will start and the CPU fan will twitch but not run. The CPU heats up so I assume there is power going to it.
I have tested the CPU and RAM both are OK and I have recapped 95% of one of the boards but there has been no change in the symptoms.
There are also two ceramic type fuses on the board and they also test OK.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

        Thanks,
Two of these systems had failed power supplies and one had an intermittent supply.
I tried two brand new units with the same results on the board.
I did see an earlier post that indicated these Bestec units fail sending in excess of 12v down the 5v side and smoke the board.
Is there a way to test and see if this may have occurred?
        Thanks again!

OK, I have the testing procedure for the VRM from your site but how do I locate the following:
            a. input of the VRM
            b. load supply pin in the VRM
            c. output of the VRM
Do you have any pictures on this site?

I also fond this information on these boards from you site if this helps.

Once again thanks for your help!

first measure the voltage across a cap in that row next to the cpu.

Is this done with the CPU and RAM installed?

Re: Emachine T2245 Board or CPU?

When I install the RAM and CPU and get the PSU to "start" I get 1.694 - 1.693 across the row next to the CPU.
