    MSI K7T Turbo v3 (MS-6330)

It's in pretty bad shape - missing caps, bad caps, broken DIMM latches, dirt everywhere... I wonder if it's fixable.

    Dirt:

    More dirt:

    Bent pins:

    Bad Chhsi caps:

    Caps ripped off:

Even more dirt and broken connectors:

How in the hell did that thing get so dirty?????? I would recommend that you take out the CMOS battery and run it through the dishwasher to clean it, then try to R&R it. Just my two cents worth.

Where did you get that? Dumpster diving? If you decide to work on that, please post the results here. That is my kind of project

        Re: MSI K7T Turbo v3 (MS-6330)

I got some bad boards, this one was in worst shape of them. After some work, it looks "a bit" better Cleaning, straightening pins, replacing broken connectors, replacing bad caps, fixing broken-off SMD components and a broken trace near CPU socket. Only the DIMM latches are still broken - replacing DIMM slots is not something I want to try now
It seems to work, I'll test it completely later.

          Hi guys,
I have a very similar board, MSI k7t turbo v.3 (on the bottom it says "limited")
The board is red not green. It doesn't appear to have the same cap values either. The two nearest the power connector are teapo 3900 10v. I see in your pics that yours were 4700 16v.

Someone had it before me and started to replace the other 12.5mm caps with 4700 6.3v (4 of them). He did a real hack job too.

How do I know what to replace them with?

I didn't know if MSI put 3900uF or 4700uF on mine. Use 4700uF if you're not sure - they're easier to get.

I think my board is likely the same as this one. THanks Rainbow.

OK so I thought I had it all figured out

The capacitor between the floppy connector and memory banks has 3 holes??
Unfortunately when I got the board it was missing a good # of caps including this one.
This thread in our forum indicates that it's a 1000uf cap. However it's hole diameter is different than all the other 1000uf cap diameters. This isn't making any sense to me.

Does it matter which hole I put the lead through? I assume it does but they seem to be so close that they are connected?

                Please help

The 3 holes and different diameter silkscreen is normal, used for options of different sized caps. The 2 holes close together on the white side are connected, you can use either one. I have a couple boards that have 2 different size 1000uf caps.

                    Thanks,
I gave it a try and..... the board is dead. The four red lights stay bright ruby red and the only sign of life is that it powers up. Too bad, I could have used another 462 board.

I already pulled the caps off. I leave the leads about 1/4 inch too long and the test the boards on stiff foam. If they don't work the caps can be used again easilly that way.

Check traces around the CPU socket - they can be easily damaged when installing/removing CPU heatsink.

I gave it a look see. I can't find any traces that are for certain scratched to the point of separation. I found a few on the bottom that were scratched to bare silver showing.
It's likely that it was shorted by the bad caps.

your right about the cpu socket though. I'm thankful that I've never destroyed a board this way. A few time I've smacked the board with the screw driver on a particularily stubborn heat sink.
