    Asrock GE PRO-M2 (S478)

My gf's sister asks me to check out her computer because it keeps freezing. So I head over and 90% of the time it wont post, the other 10% of the time it works fine but freezes under heavy load. So I pull off the case cover not even knowing about the capacitor conspiracy and I see a blown cap, then another, and another. 9 in total (7 blown, 2 buldging). I went home and google'd the problem and found this website. I couldnt believe that it would boot up 10% of the time with 9 bad caps.

Anyways the caps are green Taicon 1000uF 6.3v and there are 3 or 4 good ones still in there (well I shouldnt say "good", working rather). I desoldered the bad ones and replaced them. I booted up the computer 10+times and ran it for an hour and everything seems fine. The only problem I ran into was when I tried to flash the bios, it flashed perfectly, then wouldnt boot (CMOS - invalid checksum) so I reset it to default and left it alone.

I'll give it back to her and see if it goes a week problem-free, hopefully it does, she only uses it a few minutes each day to check email and such.

The problem is, if the bad ones are degraded, the new caps woud overtake their load and could be overstressed. if you have used some higher grade well branded caps how it is adviced by this board, it would certainely survive a long time. If you used some unknown parts from the next elektronic store, you will get it back again in no time.

Sounds like you successfully repaired it, good job!

Don't worry about the "CMOS checksum error" message - many flashing utilities are set to clear the nvRAM following a BIOS flash, so it is normal that you should receive that message during the first reboot.

replace the rest of the same type .
you can do it now or soon when they die.
btw most bios flashing instructions tell you to clear cmos after a flash.normal to get that on restart after a flash.

thanks for the advice with the cmos,
it did infact update the bios sucessfully, I must have skipped some steps reading the flashing instructions.

for the other capacitors, I'll just leave them since shes already got her computer back

          Note: MBM5 is showing a -12 voltage of -14.9v and a -5 voltage of -7v
either MBM is showing the wrong voltage, or the power supply is faulty

I can just use a digital multimeter to double check this right? What wires would I check? Because those are way out of range, and I'm guessing this could have lead to the failing caps.

          Correct me if I'm wrong....

MBM and co. sucks, as monitoring chips sucks. The only thing they are good for is temperature due to the lack of mounting posibilities for an other thermal probe.

Gaming Laptop Zephyrus S17 TFT not detected every time !
              by titomno2
              Hi guys,
I post my problem here because I think it could be a capacitor related issue (Asus support on this particular subject is non-existing).
So the computer is a Zephyrus-S17-GX735LXS-26T and the strange behavior is seen.
On cold start most of the time the internal screen is detected and a picture it works fine until shutdown, sleep or deep sleep.
Then the screen won't work for a long period of time.
If I wait 1 or 2 hours it work again most of the time.
When it doesn't work the batterie indicator blink 3 times white stop and the same schematic is repeated...

Adding a clock battery to action camera to retain date&time when changing batteries Campark X25
              by flat-earther
I have a cheap action camera with an annoying trait, every time I change batteries the date & time gets reset and I have to set it again.

To solve this problem I want to add a small internal battery inside it which will keep supplying power to the camera for a while while I change batteries so the date & time is retained.

I have opened the camera and I think there is enough room to add something inside to accomplish this:

The camera is powered by a 3.7V nominal single cell lithium ion battery.
So I need to connect another battery in...

ASRock N100M, no picture no boot, but semi-alive
              by Exim
              Hi guys,
I managed to semi-kill an ASRock N100M board after updating Bios from 1.10 to 2.01. It's a zombie now, dead, but not dead.

              ASRock N100M special features:
              - CPU soldered to board, small Intel 12th gen
              - iGPU
              - four POST LEDs

Problem after updating Bios to 2.01 using the in-Bios update tool: no picture, no boot.
I am not sure anymore if it booted at least once successfully after updating the bios to 2.01, maybe not, I can't remember. I think it did not.

              Symptoms:
              - no picture/signal on any of the display connectors,...

HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx long time to get the power led on
              by OscarAV
              Hello,

I just came here to see if someone has had the same problem I have, and if he or she solved It, to know how to do It.

I have made a quick search for my laptop but I have not seen anything similar.

I have an old laptop, an HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx which takes a lot of time to be ready to start if the laptop has been unplugged for a while. It has no battery. The battery failed long time ago. It needs to be plugged to work. But as I said, It can take a lot of time until the charging led gets on, and I can switch on the laptop. I am using an external monitor...

BIOS .bin file for ASRock B450M Steel Legend
              by nolaryie
Hi, I’m looking for a clean, working BIOS .bin dump (16MB) for the ASRock B450M Steel Legend motherboard.

I’ve already tried flashing the official ASRock ROM file via CH341A, but it won’t post — I believe the capsule format is incompatible.

Any BIOS version that supports Ryzen 5 2600 is fine (e.g., P2.30–P3.60).

If anyone has a working board and can dump the BIOS using CH341A or flashrom, I would really appreciate your help.

              Thank you!
