    Problems with VP6

    I am having problems with my vp6
    does not boot all the time
    freezes up after awhile when it does boot
    thought it was the cpu's they were both 933's but not matched
    so i bought two 1.0 ghz
    samething
    swapped ram,video card,hard drive
    samething

    caps seem to look ok judging by the pic's on here

    any ideas's would be very helpful

    if it were me, I would replace the caps anyway. i had the same symptoms as you and my caps "looked" good as well. after a bit a couple caps started to bulge, but if I would have replaced them when I first started having problems, it would have saved me a lot of headaches. at the same time, I put in a bigger PSU (Antec Trupower 430 I believe).

    after that, all was right with the world and its been running great ever since......and that was 5+ years ago.

      i have seen 50+ vp6 with stability issues that total recap fixed.
      the black/gold jackcons in the vrm section often fail without bulging.
      i have one on the bench now that came in with a bootlooping complaint that the caps look fine on.but the scope shows 1.5v p-p of trash on vcore!
      its worth fixing.
      tc or i can do it if you want it done.
      edit...
      i see you have not swapped the power supply.they can also cause this.still should be recapped asap though.
