I am recapping a GX270. How do you remove the shield to get to C118-C124 ? Those plastic push-ins are really causing trouble.

use a small awl from the underside of the board and push them out. Don't sit there and try prying them up from the top with a flat screwdriver, you'll destroy them before you ever get them out.<--- Badcaps.net Founder

Beed there, done that.
Actually I got 3 of them out without much damage (just a few scratches). My fingers and nails did hurt afterwards, though. I lost my nerves on the last one, so I tore that sucker into pieces.
After recapping and putting everything back together, I found that I have screws that were the same size as those push-pins. Since I did destroy one of the push-pins, I used the screw instead. Wish I found the screws earlier. I didn't feel like taking out those other push-pins out again, so I left them there. The screw fits and works quite nicely, though.
I think I'll post some pictures of my "fix" later this week. Had to some mods to make a standard P4 heatsink fit since I didn't have the original GX-270 one. Made a custom clip and fan holder for the heatsink, too. All using junk hardware I had laying around.Last edited by momaka; 04-09-2012, 06:27 PM.Comment

I've broken the pins on those before. latter designs use screws

Hi all, I have a Dell Latitude 7300 with a locked BIOS and I was curious about the process of removing the lock by editing the hex values of the bin and how to do it. Is editing the hex values of the dumped bios any different than flashing a new one that's already been unlocked? (I currently don't have the correct bin because I realize I accidentally dumped the wrong thing). I am very new to this any help or advice or references would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a problem with nvidia shield 2019 p2897. The lights of the device are on but there is no voltage in the red marked areas. The green areas are normal and the chip in the yellow area is heating up in long-term voltage. Does anyone have a diagram or an idea? Thanks in advance

If you get a bare motherboard with no I/o shield, what do you do with it?
Use without shield?
Find a shield?
Trash board?
Wish there were more standardized i/o shields but this is annoying... -
Had someone drop off a laptop in which they were upgrading the ram but forgot to unplug the battery.
Looks like the ram RFI shield shorted a rail going to or coming from a Silergy IC which blasted a component off the board. I'm going to assume it was a cap but really have no way to know for sure since this board schematic doesn't appear to be in the wild yet.
