GTX 1660 Ti: Missing GPU Details & Abnormal Behavior - Possible Faulty IC?

    Hello everyone,

I've been encountering some perplexing issues with my ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1660 Ti Gaming OC and am seeking insights or potential solutions from the community.

    Symptoms:

Initially experienced a gradient-style black screen from the top.
Poor performance: ~10 FPS on the lock screen.
Encountered artifacts followed by black screens.
After addressing a PSU-related problem, still observed a performance drop (~10 FPS).
    Upon using GPU-Z:
    Memory size shows as 0MB.
Unknown bus width and bandwidth reported.
In the Device Manager, the GPU had shown Error Code 31.
After driver reinstall, artifacts were observed, resulting in a complete loss of HDMI/DP output. However, after some attempts, I managed to get Windows running without artifacts or the Error 31.
In MSI Afterburner, indicators for clock speed, voltage, memory speed, and temperatures are missing.
    Potential Causes:

Based on some research and initial troubleshooting, a few possible culprits have been identified:

VRAM ICs malfunction: This could be the reason GPU-Z displays a memory size of 0MB.
Faulty Voltage Regulator Modules (VRMs): Might be causing unstable power delivery.
Power Management IC (PMIC) issues: Could be affecting the reporting and behavior of the GPU.
GPU Core abnormalities: Sensors or circuits within the GPU core might be malfunctioning.
BIOS Chip issues: Could be leading to incorrect readings or behaviors.
    Attempts So Far:

Used DDU in Safe Mode to completely uninstall and reinstall the latest drivers.
Tested the GPU on another system and observed similar issues.
Before delving into more complex diagnostics or considering a replacement, I'm hoping to gather thoughts, similar experiences, or suggestions from the community. Has anyone encountered such a scenario? Could a faulty IC or another component be the root cause? Any advice on further testing or repair would be appreciated!

    Thank you in advance!

This sounds like a corrupted vbios and bad contact between gpu and vram.
You will need to reball the gpu and maybe some memory chips, for that you need an expert whitch have the right tools for that work.
You also need to reflash the vbios whitch you can do at home by using the card as secondary video card so you can post the pc and reflash the vbios without getting disturbed by any behaviour troubles. There is many tutorials out there and you can find the vbios on TechPowerUp site.

PS: Avoid wiggeling the video card when you insert/remove it.

    Good Luck.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Schematic & Board View

The GeForce GTX 1660 is a performance-segment graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on March 14th, 2019. Built on the 12 nm process, and based on the TU116 graphics processor, in its TU116-300-A1 variant, the card supports DirectX 12. This ensures that all modern games will run on GeForce GTX 1660. The TU116 graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 284 mm² and 6,600 million transistors. Unlike the fully unlocked GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, which uses the same GPU but has all 1536 shaders enabled, NVIDIA has disabled some...

Why doesn't current just bypass faulty capacitors.
      by Spudgun
Hello esteemed members. I appreciate that my question will strike some as being somewhat childishly simple, but it genuine perplexes me! I have repaired several laptops before by removing a faulty capacitor that was short-circuiting the motherboard, whereupon the laptop would then work. For me, it begs the question that, if the current can bypass where the capcitor was when it has been removed, why didn't it just bypass it when it was present and faulty,? I can't get my head round the premise that if the other side of the capacitor is connected to ground, then why doesn't the current simply bypass...

MacBook Air 1466 820-3437-B abnormal behavior
      by mferna14
I am working on a Apple MacBook Air 1466 820-3437-B logic board. There was a slight liquid spill near the L7095 coil on the PP3V42_G3H rail. Cleaned it well, now it turns on fine, fan spin is normal, I see the folder, display is perfect. Now the issue is that when I install the SSD, the logic board turn on, fan spin all the time without the normal check (Fan spin, stops, again spin then stops & then fan spin continously & the logic board start to work normal). & there is no display at all. I checked the SSD on another good unit, its 100% fine, but on this unit it gives this error....

Acer A317-53 need help to disable faulty onboard ram
      by b-slayer
      Hello.
I have an Acer Aspire A317-53 laptop with faulty onboard ram modules, after online searches, I have only found two options to get it working :
      - first one is to modify le bios to disable the onboard ram.
      - second one is to disable the onboard ram by desoldering some components on the mainboard.

so after some hours google-ing, i have to give-up the modified bios option, main reason is I couldn't find anywhere a such modified Bios, alternate reason is that if windows update makes a bios update, the problem is always here...

so i found that my motherboard...

      Behavior of Faulty IC's
      by sigmeyer
      Hi everyone ,
I just have a random question that i think many noobs like me would stop and wonder sometimes...

I was wondering is it possible that a chip with many pins , still have a part of it working but other part being faulty? And what are the chances of that?

Im not talking about mosfets or transistors , but complex IC's
