    Z170 Pro Gaming

I've had something similar with Z170 Pro Gaming. One morning, it wasn't booting. I replaced battery CR2032 then it boot once, I could access BIOS and that was the last time after I restarted it never boot again. I didn't change anything from BIOS. I've tried with no RAM with another CPU... real headache.

Now when I press power button, fan spins for 2 secs then stop... again spin 2 secs and stop and it will repeat this sequence forever. Asus support said I should buy a new one.... I've reflash Z170 PRO GAMING BIOS 3805 with my programmer but still same.

Looking at my Z170 Pro Gaming, I've identifed MX25L512. i've read it using SOIC 8 PIN connected to EEPROM prgrammer and I get a 64K file. I've attached BIOS and TPU. Now I need to figure it out.

    Re: Z170 Pro Gaming

Normally if this happens, it means one of the violage is not present.or produced. Hence it will boot loop..one of the possible thing. Not for beginner.

That chip is for the controller called tpu xxxxx. It is not the bios for the board

So, i bought a joblot with 10pcs Z170 Pro Gaming.
Two of them are having the exact same issue:
Every rail has its voltages, but VCORE and VCCGT are missing. VCCSA are present.
Reaction to power button (both on and off). Consumption is hanging on ~700mA (800-900mA with CPU cooler)
            I checked:
-every low and high side FETs,
            -every mosfet driver (NCP81166AMNTBG),
            -the digi VRM (ASP1400BMNTXG)
            -the TPU (KB3720QF)
All seems to be fine (not shorted and same resistances as on the other working mobo)
I switched the TPU flash (PM25LD512 manufactured by Chingis) from an other mobo with a damaged socket.

With the "new" TPU flash i had the same hanging around 700mA.
With the "new" TPU flash and with its own bios chip, the pair gets trough on the mentioned 700mA period, reaches 1,6A for a second or two, than it restarts, like it is RAM training, but after the restart it is hanging again on that 700mA.

            Lessions:
The PM25LD512 are really fragile, recommended to desolder it with a hot air gun, and dont even try to force up one side of the pins and then the other.
The TPU flash has to mach its own BIOS version.

My next step will be to download all the BIOS versions from Asus, and try each of them with this TPU flash, maybe it is mismatching with even its original bios chip (remember, its from a job lot)

Question: How can i extract the TPU bin from the BIOS bin? That way i could try to program each of em separately -to sort out if its just a mismatch originally.
If you have any other suggestion, thats welcome.

What i saved from the TPU flash:

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2523nd - Dimm2 slot disabled after corrupt bios repair? Advice requested.
                by Bloodhoundje
                Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...

                ASUS TP500LA BIOS request/repair/merge?
                by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                Some issues
                A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

[REQUEST] Dell G3 3579 BIOS Password & AMI Protected Range/BIOS Guard Unlock
                by zenius
Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...
