    Sohoware NDH305 hub

Bought this hub a while back and used it as a secondary device because speed wasn't important. It died one day by disconnecting nodes and then the lights on the front panel got dimmer. I said "WTH' and immediately took the cover off. On the low-voltage input side beyond the diodes, choke, and axial fuse is one damn domed Wendell 470uF 25V! It is traced to one of the legs of the mosfet close by. I contacted the manufacturer about the "quality" of components they used (all Wendell) and they replied they were sorry there was nothing they could do since it was beyond its useful life. If they didn't put shit in it, it would have a full "useful" life. Engineered obselesence by way of Taiwan and especially China. I'm having flashbacks of Wendell from the Soyo AT boards I had repaired. What if we took the people who decided to use these crappy caps and put bad components in them? Then they would see what end of useful life really meant. Didn't Gates come up with this life cycle crap in order to indoctinate more people in to the Micro$ mantra? Upgrade! Upgrade! Upgrade!

i agree with you on the cheaping out of manufacturers especially on the small hubs. what like 4 or so caps? would cost what. anyway it is easy to recap hubs. i had some intel inbusiness hubs, good caps on some not good on others. anyway the psu with nice rubycon caps crapped out on all units one by one. design fault? i dont know. i got some still running in a few very small offices with new psu and new heatsink replacing hsf on one chip. damn fan breaks maybe before the psu. anyway nice for sharing dsl and by no means is 10/100 obsolete trash candidate at the moment. a few bucks and it is again useful. the 3com officeconnect 8 ports on the other hand with 4 new good caps they are fine for more years, psu is still good after years.

              Do people still overclock?
              by eccerr0r
Yeah it's free speed, but do people generally still overclock their computers risking instability, using more power/cooling, etc. or have people simply accepted stock speeds or perhaps it's pretty much impossible to overclock in general because CPUs are already at its limits, or perhaps it's not possible without surgery, ridiculous cooling, or signed firmware hacks nowadays?

Wondering if I should run my 2.67GHz C2Q at 3 or 3.2GHz and risk instability or corruption during the summer months as it's nice and cool now during the winter...

              Random people pinging your computer...
              by eccerr0r
I do have a website but it's not for general use. Definitely not doing any e-commerce, and at most it's just general computer information if it has any value at all.

However I noticed that people are sending ping requests to my computer, constantly. In fact I get around 8000 individual ICMP echo requests a day though each IP sending them send multiple packets.

I set my computer to stop replying to them to see if it would stop. Nope.

What value is there is to sending these if I don't respond to them? Anyone have similar data?

              Just curious of what...

Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen3 stuck on "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen
              by BMCappelletti
              Hi everyone.
Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 3, stuck on the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen.
Found a lot of people with this issue, but with no definitive answer. Some people managed to get away accessing BIOS, going to Startup and turning off "Option Key Display". For me that only removed the interrupt normal start up message, leaving only the Lenovo logo.
Most people say hitting Enter does not work. It's true, if you wait a few seconds. But if you hit Enter right away you get the options to enter BIOS (which works), run diagnostics (goes to a...

Google Messages has a web service. And this guy wrote a client that hosts it inside a chrome build. It essentially processes the web notifications, stays in your tray till exited
